Life Finds A Way

A ballad about a state of being in the in-between, on piano and vocals.

I played around earlier this week and found a phrase that I really liked, one of the most basic things you can do on a piano but highly effective: Fmaj7, Em7, Dm7 and Cmaj7, all with a G in the bass. It's a super melancholic sounding phrase and since I've always wanted to make a song that can make people cry I decided this is the week for it. Disclaimer: I don't think I succeeded but maybe a little. The piano might be too jazzy for a cryfest. I'm especially excited about the very first phrase and the very last I generally think I did a pretty good job - but it took a TON of takes smile

The first few days I looped the simple phrase and started dubbing over it with my guitar. I didn't like any of the overdubs but the loop was still mesmerizing. The next few days I kept going back to it. Finally I expanded it with a B part of Abmaj7, Gm7, Fm7 to Fdim to Em7 and wrote some lyrics that I thought best capture the mood of the song. I hope you like them, they came from the heart.

Lovely playing and I really enjoyed the whistling.  Added a great vibe to it.

Super lovely playing !! Where is that melodica solo? Coming next week?

wow you are really an ace instrumentalist!  love the.......jazzitude of this.  Yes the whistling took it to another level!

Thank you so much! Nowhere near where I wanna be with my playing but it only gets better hehe. Now I'm focusing more on the sound than the technique.

Yea melodica solo next week(s) cause I was too afraid to record in my flat.

Lovely.  I want to sample some of those chords.

Thank you so much! Glad you mentioned the windchime keys tongue I was almost as happy with those as with the intro lick

So chill. I really enjoyed this, and loved reading about the process, too.

Wow, amazing piano! I wish to play as this some day, this is more inspiring to it now. Not tears, but it is beautiful smile

Real goshdang purty stuff. I feel lighter, somehow.

This composition is so beautiful.

Wow, this is great.  Excellent piano playing and singing.  The whistle solo at the end fits perfectly.

Smooth heart

Let's start with the intro then, it's gentle and eases me in very well
The the vocals kick in, they're a little low compared to the piano, but the chords themselves are very full and warm
Then the solo, very playful, but still pretty calm, something to be savored over and over
Then the vocals come back, lower than before, but the piano is pretty easy going as well
Top notch outro

ohh my word and the the whistle  - just lovely!

Mate this is incredible. So evocative.
