Happiness (Cat in a dream)

By horatiuromantic on January 9, 2022 11:53 pm

A song about happiness. The harmonic theme actually came to me in a dream a few months back and this week I found the recording I took that morning of myself, trying to remember the tune. I wrote the lyrics with the help of a conversation with OpenAI GPT-3 about dreams and happiness and cats. I recorded my guitar through a custom chorus/reverb effect made in mirack and used BeatMaker to slice it up on iPad without a click track (since I couldn't perform it head to finish without errors, but I still wanted the sweet natural feel). Then I used Staffpad to orchestrate the strings and combine with the vocals, and a bit of mastering.

this is great!

excited to hear more stuff from you

Love this!

the string section draped in a romantic longing. amazing structure and super effective instrumentation

I love this sweet and nostalgic song!

LOVE dream music!  I think I have a few audio recordings that i've never been able to convert.

wow, those strings are great.  you've got a nice gordon lightfoot thing going on.  I really like your voice a lot!  nice opener, excited to hear you this year.

there's like a page turn sound at 1:37 - intentional?

thanks for the comments and the love folks! I really appreciate it! Orangedrink - the heavylifting of the strings is done by staffpad, I tried to take care of the composition that it doesn't get too muddy but I only had 3 hours so I had to keep it simple and a lot of copy paste big_smile but I'm happy with the result and I will do more of this for sure.
nice you noticed the page turn tongue I left it in intentionally just like the weird snicker at the end. seemed fitting.

cool song smile

I remember dreaming of a harmonic theme, I'm still looking for the recording

Love this one though, not sure the effects on the guitar were necessary, but everything else is smooth

I couldn't get it to sound good without effects so I preferred this. However I admit I don't know what I'm doing w/r to effects so this is just my random take tongue

more music from dreams! so far I made this one and another one where I dreamt the harmonies/melodies. Weird how the brain works.

Wow, very cool.  Really great sound harmoinically/musically.  Great vocal performance too.

Dude, the caught me off guard when they came in, and then I couldn't stop listening.

More guitar based content on WB please!!!!!

the vocals caught me off guard***

Interesting  origin of the composition – thanks for sharing that. Beautiful singing and string arrangement.

What is that sound fx on 1:37? Flipping of a page in book? Nice detail anyway smile

Thank you for the feedback! I'm encouraged to make more vocal stuff by you all big_smile

Page flip sound is real and I figured I could cut it when I mix, but then I realized I liked it there smile

I also learned something about making songs from Karl Pilkington - a super funny and unique dude on a podcast - that it's good to have a song with a story. That will hook people and they won't be able to stop because they wanna know what happens next... I intend to find out how well that works down the line, and I'd LOVE to hear more stories in you folks' music too!

Your voice is absolutely perfect for this vibe! Love the orchestral goods, and moody chords, hell even the page flip sound just makes this song better

What a great mixture of sounds! Loved the way you mixed the guitar. Really colorful.
The strings feel really natural too. I gotta look up Staffpad now

This has got some real '40s and '50s film song vibes. Really tasty work. The lyrics are killing me (in a good way), very sweet.
