Hank's Shoes

By horatiuromantic on June 12, 2022 9:08 pm

My friend Hank got new shoes.

Improvised track made on ipad with ravencroft piano, some magic dice and juno chorus, some vocals joining halfway through on a whim, and then slightly touched afterwards in Logic with the tape machine and LA-2 compressor from UA spark.

Enjoy and safe crossing through the swampy tones (sorry I recorded only 1 take on the master, there was nothing I could do)

that's some damn good piano playing

what an epic opus for a pair of shoes. the piano sounds awesome.

If there's anything I've learned about Hank's shoes from this song is that they're magical. And damn, there's so many chords in there that sound so amazing. Really nice extensions that outline melodic movement. I made a couple of piano songs like this last year but my approach feels much more ignorant and yours much more purposeful.

Thanks! stream of consciousness-style... and going with the flow of whatever it does sound like...

Thanks so much! It was an exercise in one-taking it, so I tried to keep it low-risk with the chords and composition and so on, but it turned out quite error-free-ish. My focus is always to have something interesting and confident-sounding in the melody line, the chords are pretty much automatic and I just react to them. If it sounds bad at least it's confident, and you can play it as part of the story... Haven't heard your old piano songs, but your newer rock band style stuff is amazing btw! I don't know how you did the piano songs, haven't heard them, but I think this type of song is easier when you can improvise. Otherwise composing will take too much time for such a janky song. Thanks for your thoughts!
