28. where winds blow onshore

heat wave this past week. not the apocalyptic kind, thankfully, but a heat wave nonetheless. on many days the weather forecast would say "[high temperature], except [lower temperature] where winds blow onshore". the phrase struck me as being sort of poetic.

and it's true. that's where you wanna be.

there is now also a video for this track!

thank you! this track started out a long time ago with those elements. if they are the elements i think you mean. there are two components: a rhythmic noise track with variable delay that increases and decreases, and a chopped up vocal track (voice synth "singing" text) (actually 2 layers of that with different filters and progression), hitting the same 16th-note beats as the rhythmic noise. sort of creates a hybrid sound but can also be detected independently, especially at the end where the noise fades quicker than the voice. the other layer that fades in and plays out til the end, that sounds like beatboxing, is made from a multi stage process - beat programmed on computer with 909 samples, then recorded out of the air with my phone to low-quality voice memo file, then that audio is chopped up and put through a semi-aleatoric rhythmic pattern (same deal as the stuttering hihats that come and go, which btw i think are too loud in the mix but that's working with a deadline for ya). also featuring my new instrument which i am totally stoked about.

anyway i decided to render a version of this track minus all the beat stems to show these elements a bit clearer (does not include pseudo-beatbox track). hope this works:

28. where winds blow onshore (beatless redux)

nvm i can't deal with google drive settings lol here it is on sc:

* Thank you for sharing. The beatless version allows me to hear more of the "vocal" texture and is good background listening on its own.

* drums that sound like beatboxing are always a great time.

* no yeah definitely, here's-to cooling down and chilling out!

An interesting workflow you have been doing. I like the chill and cool down effect of your track. very inspiring.

instantly put me in relaxed, good space and kept me floating (chilling out in the A/C escaping a high 90 degree day actually) the whole time. There's some great textures playing here. Percussion sounds are neat. I like the melody that just kinds of drops by to say hello then fades. I love that phrase where the winds blow onshore ... it does seem poetic. A starting place. A good qualifier for any statement. This heat!

thanks miraclemiles! glad you enjoyed it smile

oh yeah and i also just learned that redux means a revival of something, whereas i always thought it was short for reduction, as in "piano reduction" 🤷 oh well lol i guess it still kinda works!
