So, I write a newsletter in which I publish a short story once a month. Last Saturday I sent out a new story, and it was interesting to see people so split on how it made them feel. Some people thought it was beautiful, and others sent me messages to ask if I was okay and if I needed someone to talk to. Creative expression is funny like that.

In my writing, I am drawn to sadder stories because I feel most comfortable digging into them for moments of wonder and beauty. A life doesn’t have to be beautiful for there to be great beauty in it, you know?

Anyway, a friend of mine listened to this track before I uploaded it and she said, “I like that your music is gentle. It’s very different to your writing.”

I guess it’s just interesting to me to think that the medium sometimes dictates a particular kind of mood, feeling, and expression.

Oh, and if you feel like checking out the story in question, you can do so here: (it's issue #26)

Very relaxing one - I like the mellow textures.

キックが良い感じですね~ smile

Deep kick groove here and lovely tones floating above.  Sound good on the headphones. smile

Very relaxing, it feels like sitting in a park watching the world go by. Your story was great, well written and had a good flow. The way it hopped between the two subjects like that was done really well, and I can't stop thinking of the image of boxes of unsellable books just inside the door. Props for doing the writing consistently, that's something I'd love to do if I didn't spend all my time on music lol.

Lovely and I can't wait to read your story. Oh, by the way you and Ritchie managed to convince me to get an OP1 this week. Can't wait for it to arrive.

I actually have a really hard time getting the OP-1 to sound good outside of headphones. It's kind of something I'm working through.

Thanks for reading! I think writing and music for you and me are maybe opposites (I'm putting effort into learning music this year, but writing is still my main thing). Incidentally, the books by the door are actually kind of a joke about my own collection of short stories... because I still have a couple boxes of books left by the door. Fortunately, my cat is in fine health, though!

Honestly can't wait to hear what you come up with after you've had a chance to play around and explore with it. Really hope it makes it into your weekly beat experiments this year!

I like the design of this track. I feel the waves of this track, from the bass instrument and pad to the way the instruments take turns making sound in that patterned structure.

lovely!

Thanks so much for listening! It's often hard for me to layer sounds in a way that feels natural, but this track feels like it's getting there. smile

Gif selection = 100

Delightfully gentle and comforting heart Reminds me a bit of the Baba is You soundtrack, lots of room for the instruments to breathe and very charming melodies!

It certainly is! I have not finished yet, I think I'm decently far along. If you like to give your brain a workout, before Baba I played the Witness. It is very different but will get you thinking creatively just the same smile

Very calming tune here
