This week I tried an experiment. I wrote this entire piece with my audio muted. I didn't listen to what I had written until I was done, and once I listened I didn't allow myself to change anything. Surprisingly this turned out really well! There are a few things I'd do different now (particularly with the ending, which sounds more like a transition into something else) but I'm pleased with it overall.

I figured the best approach would be to embrace the inevitable dissonance. While this isn't an atonal piece by any means, it can be rather harsh, in large part due to the soundfont. In many ways it suits the music, though a real performance would benefit this song greatly. Anyway, hope you enjoy my little experiment!

Cool idea, what'd you use to write this?

I write everything in Sibelius, as I most often write for performance (hence my lack of production values). I would imagine it's much easier writing without hearing when working with standard notation than in other forms of music creation, but as that's all I have experience with I don't know.
