Beneath The Great Oak Tree Is The Treasure Of An Elf

Very busy this week, so almost no time to work on this unfortunately. Just a short little piece developing a simple chord progression. Some nice ideas I hope to develop later. I have an interesting idea for next week, though!

Where is that string going? Could use some more dynamics. Remember, filters are always a good tool for that sort of thing. This seems to obviously be a fairly simple sketch, so I'm not going to harp on about it, but remember in your next submissions that gainers alone don't achieve much. Have fun here on weeklybeats

I was so rushed I forgot to write in dynamics, which is usually the last thing I do to a piece anyway. Not that it's an excuse, of course!

Don't use filters, don't even use any programs that allow me to or know how, so I'm not sure exactly what you mean by it, but I use Sibelius which handles dynamics anyway (albeit not was well as it should). Production isn't a high priority to me since I write for performance, but the strings in the opening are a major annoyance to me. Small oversight, big impact.

Ahh Sibelius. Not the best choice for *producing* electronic music, at least as far as I've seen. =P If you want to invest even a small amount of effort into learning a proper DAW (like Renoise) you'll have much more control over your sound, and let me tell you, sound design is quite a fun field to get into. I really like your week 1 track but you can definitely hear how it's "dry" and mechanical because of the relatively simplstic sounds it's made of. If you pick up a DAW you could absolutely lift your music to a whole new level! I don't blame you if you want to ignore sound design / DAWs in favour of composition (being a composer and all) though, especially if you already have your workflow / tools solidified and stuff hmm

Sibelius does make it difficult if you aren't writing concert music, generally, yeah lol. It's possible, just more work for inferior results. Not a bad thing since that isn't really the point of it. I used to be more interested in the production side of it, but as I started focusing more on writing for performance (which was always my intention), that part became more and more of a chore. Obviously I do want the stuff I write to sound good for people listening, so I do what I can, and if I'm really motivated, I do bust out some sound libraries from time to time, especially if my schedule isn't too busy. Right now I have so much going on though.

I realize the sound on my tracks isn't always going to be the most appealing, but I'm just doing this to try out creative ideas I normally don't do or just to write something different than what I'm normally writing anyway, and hopefully people can at least appreciate that part. Thanks for your input, though! I hope it doesn't sound like I'm just blowing you off and saying "I know what I'm doing, go away" lol
