Next Cross Over

Had to ease myself back into Weekly Beats on my home turf. Had the idea for the glitchy delay effects on the main stab this morning and am somewhat happy with the result. I'm wondering if I maybe overdid the compression on the main stab a bit, but I do like the aesthetics of it.

Mostly Ableton stock, except for a bit of processing and the fill drums.

I'll try to live stream my weekly beats session next week, see https://halfbyte.org/ for details and schedule.

This is really nice - a lot of great space. I like the compression levels personally!

I like it. In my head, this feels a bit like Miami Beach. Can't really explain why, and I haven't even been there myself, but if I were to produce a music video for this track, that's where it would be set.

how do u make the cat meow synths? seems v classic for a certain type of house beat. nice laid back drums

It definitely had Beachy vibes for me as well. Thanks!

Such a vibe, i'm bopping along. That tight kick is killer.

scy is actually in the right zone, it does give me laid back vibes of driving through south beach.  It has a dark house feel to it but the dubby synths and lead line give it that tropical laidback energy.  A chill groove throughout.  Well done!

Yep, definitely summer. It’s night, dark, hot and humid, we’re on a rooftop terrace. Inside it’s unbearable, the noise, the bodies, the heat, but outside is a pretty chill place. Brought a glass of red wine, there is lots of greenery on the terrace, old and new friends, the city lights in the distance, the surf audible over the loungey track that plays on the terrace system.

Nice track, made me forget winter for a few minutes!

It's a super simple Ableton Wavetable patch, a sawtooth wave, probably in a very subdued Shimmer mode (Unison), slight filter envelope with a sloppy attack and (I think) a minimal pitch envelope as well, but I'm not even sure, I'd have to look it up. Can do, if you want me to.

Thanks for the description! That should be enough, at least gives me a direction. I don’t use ableton anyway.

I'm planning on a quick walkthrough through the track in today's test livestream. I'll make a video of it and post it here. I was realizing while writing that "super simple" isn't really what this is. Ableton Wavetable is just an awesome synth for making these sounds quickly because it usually sounds good with just a few tweaks. That being said, this should absolutely be transferable to other synths, including free options etc. etc.

That Mr. Oizo bass at the beginning suggested a whimsical piece, and there's a bit of that later with the staccato bass lines, but the piece mainly developed into delicious dub. And somehow, even though there's a four-to-the-floor kick, in my brain the track feels half tempo. Contemplative. Peaceful. Good job!

bwop bwop!

Really chill dub techno vibe, love it, doesn't get old and has you bumping along.... Downloaded

Like the bass and melody on top!
