I've had a lot of other things going on this week, so I considered skipping this week to relieve the extra pressure on myself. But I found myself with an hour of time that I had to spend waiting around, so I decided to bring the M8 and see what I could do in that time. ModalModule always inspired me with streams of himself making full, incredible sounding tracks in 2 hours. Turned out to be worth it because I did manage to come up with something I liked pretty quickly and then built up on it. In total, I spent about an hour and a half on this, which is much less than the 8-10 hours I usually spend every week. I feel like this track could still use a lot of work, but I like it better than some of my previous tracks that I spent much more time on.

My one concern is that I have a strong visual of Drew dancing to this, so I fear that I've just accidentally recreated (poorly) one of OrangeDrink's tracks.

Things that went well this week:

  • I managed to create a track fairly quickly and ended up with something that isn't amazing, but that I like parts of.

  • I finally created a more up tempo track, which I've been trying to do unsuccesfully for weeks now.

  • I started with the bass line this week. Even though it is "simple", I really like it, which should be obvious since I keep it running for the whole track.

  • I like my lo-fi synth drums better this week.

And things I wish were better:

  • The song is still too short and lacks variation. I'm still very hesitant to repeat something too much and really hit some mental block trying to come up with melody variations.

  • I really wanted my descending tone to be more "shimmery" like raindrops falling, but I had no idea how to create that and just punted on it for now.

  • I'm worried that I might have copied elements of this track from something else I've heard. I have no way of knowing for sure though.

The upbeat tempo and fast pace are super fun here! Happy to hear you still decided to give it a shot and make something. The M8 feels great for that kind of thing where you only have a really short amount of time to work on a tune.

imagine my surprise to get a NAME DROP in a description???

dude if you want me to make a dance video to this let me know and I will, i might even do it without your permission depending on your CC license LOL smile

1: this doesn't sound like an Orange Drink song to my knowledge
2: if it did, that's not a bad thing; it's a rad thing

the :43 "bass guitar" run is super awesome

BOP CONFIRMED

thanks for the shoutout, honored

Wow! That would be awesome! Feel free to do it! I forget if you're part of the M8 crew or not. I'm happy to share the original file or stems if you want to remix it.
