ISLAND - The Sunmaster

By george bowles on March 11, 2012 8:26 am

another track from my band, this week we recorded a session with Illusion of Safety, a Chicago sound artist who has been around for a loooooong time. he brought over some type of modular synth I had never seen before, I think he may have assembled it. our regular lineup of drums, bass, guitar and sax plus lots of effects is here as well.

Cool! Really the kind of track i tried to do this week and i'd really like to play with a jazz band and add my weird FX layer on it like this!
The recording isn't of great quality (especially the drum) but we really feel the energy and the vibes of the performance!

Due to this recording the sax sounds like a dying goose.  I'm sorry.

loving the noisy oral sax.

yeah sorry guys, I record with two mics, and it's difficult to get a really good recording. hopefully I'll be able to upgrade sometime this year. Sphax, glad you liked it! I am pretty stoked about this style of music as well. analog, our sax player just picked up a wahwah pedal and he was really playing with that a lot last sunday. PWR, I think it is because he was messing around with that pedal more and paying less attention to what he was playing than usual. he usually sounds better overall imo.

This is really cool stuff, well done.

I like the sound of dying geese smile Excellent track. That synth is definitely homebrew, looks like fun.

Cool.  You friends with Illusion of Safety?  I'd have some of his material in my experimental CD collection.

This is really cool.  I can feel the live energy in the room.

it kind of reminds me of a Fugazi song. I like it

thanks guys! yep I just got to meet Dan, who is friends with our sax player, for this recording. I had seen him play before both as a solo act and as a collaborator with one of my favorite bands. the guy has put out A LOT of material and has been around for a while. he's cool... sort of a chicago overlooked treasure.

we had a lot of fun on this. we have like almost 2 hours of stuff recording from this session, and this one stood out a little bit upon my first review.

Illusion of Safety?!?! Awesome.

he is probably doing a show with us on April 7 in Chicago if anyone is interested send me an email
