Dice game 4: Solar Feedback and Sun Ra

By george bowles on February 22, 2026 5:58 am

so i played my dice game again where i roll random equipment and make a track with a limited set of tools. this week i rolled feedback generator, shaker, voice, drum machine. it's a little similar to the first test dice game i did, but different setup. I was running a little late on coming up with lyrics and vocals so i decided to use some Sun Ra writing on goodreads (quote section of their website). it seems related to his idea/philosophy brother in the wind.

anyhow, i created feedback loops on three different guitar pedals using a stereo splitter adapter and running a cord out of one of the two outputs back into the pedal, one a multi-fx with drum machine, one a fuzz pedal, and one another multifx pedal. each pedal had its own range, one had the widest variety of sounds, another was in a limited upper midrange to high frequency spectrum, and the fuzz was mostly bassy which was nice that the three pedals i rolled complemented each other because I didn't roll any guitars or keyboards, it ended up being a rather primitive piece, bordering on noise and industrial in the vein of throbbing gristle, perhaps.

Huge and a little ominous!

very cool noisy sound, and good source of lyrics. love the feedback produced note (snare?) and how you used it rhythmically. did u do this live? if so, 1000x cooler, otherwise still pretty dope.

i am an improvising multi-instrumentalist but did not pull this all off live, i did overdubs but played along with what was there. it's not programmed, though!
