Conflicting Aspirations

By george bowles on March 15, 2016 5:49 am

back in weekly beats 2014 i created a rather dense series of computer processed classical guitar pieces. some of it was pretty well received on here but I couldn't muster much interest in the album as it was pretty abstract and out there and not very classical guitar sounding overall (more on the processed into oblivion side).

So, now I wanted to do more of a human classical guitar album. That and I love how my guitar sounds ran through the electroharmonix POG2 pedal.

This piece titled Conflicting Aspirations is 3 separate guitar tracks using the POG2 to sometimes effect the guitar, I designed a preset that sounded piano-like, and another almost like a harpsichord or something. and another that was like a ghostly keyboard sound that is more used for percussion in parts.

The idea is that it is sort of a play, a family of three and how they all live under one roof but are pulled in different directions as their own lives unfurl. the wedded couple and the only child. the child observes and begins to overanalyze and pull apart the parents' life experience, giving them the reflection of their own tumultuous existence.

I remember those pieces from 2014 - or at least I remember hearing and enjoying some of them. Nice story to go with this piece.

Great - dig the loose structure and feel

Very emotive piece - interesting idea well executed.

An inspiring free and jazzy soundworld you are creating here. A very good recording
sound. Love all the little details.

thanks! that is good to hear, i am a budding jazzhead, been into the genre since my early 20s when i moved to chicago. i have been lucky to enjoy a lot of live jazz and even hang out with some jazz musicians. also enjoy dj'ing with a group of other random dj's that meet up at the local punk dive on tuesdays, we play a huge variety of music including classic jazz, fusion, and funk records (i try to throw in some weirder stuff)

Very cool track.  I like the tone of this one.  Somewhat more refined?  Good stuff.
