The Ritual

By Gab Manette on November 25, 2018 5:36 am

I set out to compose something without drums to shake things up a bit and this is the result! Hope everyone had a nice week, we're in the homestretch now!

Really a very different track from you this week. Much more introspective and pensive. A very different mood and a bit darker. That's some serious bass. Sounds great with that stereo delay/panning effect. The synths really get a chance to shine without the drums.

Sounds mysterious and foreboding, your lead lines are great as usual, very different without the drums, I like how dark it feels, and how much tension there is throughout the whole piece.

Love the slow build using the delay and panning.  I agree it has a very dark and sinister feel to it without drums.  Well done!

Seems the consensus is on this being dark/darker; I know we're a bit past Halloween but after jamming on top of the bass I found it would make a good setup for a more horror-soundtrack piece and went with it! Thank you all for listening and for the nice comments heart

I don't mean to parrot what everyone else has already said, but this definitely does have a darker vibe than usual.  But it's very cool.  It would have been a great Halloween track for sure or a soundtrack for a horror movie.  I think the lack of drums works well too.

Ayy, thank you! Don't worry, on the contrary, since that's the vibe I was going for I'm glad it shows!

You're moving into Terminator soundtrack territory here. smile

It gets better every time I play it.

Ooooh, thank you! I love that soundtrack! and thanks for the repeat listens heart

Très nice!

I don't know about darker, but definitely more mysterious. Great job.

Many thanks big_smile

This has a great suspense... really sets the scene. You should try this "without drums" approach more often. A magnificient mood piece... love it!

The ritual has commenced! Yay for home stretch, and for not using drums. Funny, I never really think about not using drums. I'm a drummer, so was always sad being in bands or school band when there would not be drums. Good challenge to take on. This has nice ambiance.

Thank you very much! And yes I think I will try it more often, it was fun to focus on just synths!

Thank you big_smile I've never actually played any real drums and so with WB I actually learned quite a bit on how to program them, but I'd be very tempted to try a real drum sometime, must be challenging but very fun smile
