Legwarmers

By Gab Manette on November 4, 2018 5:54 pm

I wanted to do another track in the vein of Paradise Mall and Going Places, it ended up a bit like a cross between 80s soundtrack and game music (to me anyways!) Mix of my favorite Korg M1 bass patch, Linn Drums, a bunch of Repro-5 layers and one or two Diva synths for good measure! Have a great week all!

I think that's the perfect way to describe it. I could totally see this in a game. Nice!

That lead synth is classic 80s (with just the right soupçon of dissonance).

Now I'll have to check out Paradise Mall and Going Places. ::)

Getting my weekly Gab Manette dose.  Funny, I knew your signature sound from the first several notes without looking. Super punchy staccato synths. I had to get up and do my Maniac flash dance during the bridge.  Unfortunately, we make websites so welding touches and spaying water are frowned upon in the office.  Really could have used some legwarmers though smile

Fun and heartwarming track!! Really like the development 3/4 of the way through, very nice work!

Yes, yes, fun times. Those synths sound lovely. Could totally see this in a "we're really getting things done, cleaning up this town ... lets turn this abandoned lot into a park" kind of 80's montage. Legwarmers a must.

This is one filter away from a self-help video from the 80's, including the glitch at the start.

Sweet sounding 80s sounds throughout this track.  I hope your CPU was ok with 2 divas and repro smile  Diva is one of my fav plug-ins despite the sometimes heavy cpu usage.  Excellent melodies and the drums are super tight with a nice ending.  Well done!

You're great at creating these super fun upbeat vibes.  And capturing that 80's sound to a tee.  Very nice.

I'm hoping I get the chance to score a game one day, that'd be a dream project smile

Aaaah! That's so cool, I think it's a good sign if you can figure out it was me big_smile Also heart for flash dancing!

Thank you! I got that part in pretty much towards the end of composing, happy to hear it stands out!

Thanks! And yes, especially with the cold weather, they are indeed a must!

Thank you very much! CPU is doing great actually! It used to be a huge issue but I did two things that worked wonders, putting them here in case they can help you have more synth instances:

1) Always enable multicore in Diva (and Repro 5), it saves a loooot of processing power
2) For the longest time whatever I'd try to do in Ableton would fill up the CPU bar, even though I have a decent processor (Core i7 I7-4790 Haswell 3.6GHZ). Turns out that Windows was throttling my CPU's clock rate to conserve power (potentially saving me 3$/year on my electricity bill). The result was that it would not provide Ableton with enough in time to handle the request thus creating a bottleneck. I set my power management option in windows to high performance and BAM! instant improvement. It also improved performance in many games and it's pretty safe to do. So if you're in the same situation I recommend giving that a try!

By following the two steps above I can now stack about 7~8 instances of Diva on Divine setting before I need to start freezing tracks, compared to 1 or 2 before. Hopefully this helps!

Many thanks, I find it puts me in a good mood to write upbeat music, so I try to do it often smile

Nice! Ça me fait sourire!
