looking for field recordings with handy on-board mics.

I found a deal on a used one of these and we'll see what happens when it arrives in the mail!  Field recording review sites called this "the best portable field recorder" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I want a zoom f8n pro sooooo bad:) they're kinda pricey though.

What draws me to zoom is the floating 32bit processor which is supposedly useful especially for quieter delicate sounds, must have good preamps too. Hopefully i can get that within a year or two, field recordings seem more interesting than ever. And i would use it for band improv recordings with different lineups if I get back into the improv music scene.

are you looking to do field recordings with a mic or recording audio output of portable gear, or both? if more focused around recording other gear, the Roland R-07 is reasonably priced and works great (it can also be used as an audio interface). also, the Olympus/OM System LS-P5 is really good. both of them have on-board mics, but I wouldn't consider them ultra high quality. i typically use the Roland R-07 since it can connect to my phone and be used while taking video.

I want a TP-7 so bad because the form factor and interface just looks.....perfect

but I'm missing high-quality on board stereo mics on it!

I actually don't have a smartphone (!) but I know there are tons of great interfaces and microphone adapters for them

fun fact: I traded a whole pile of gear (eurorack modules, synths, etc.. ) at perfect circuit for a TP-7. Took several month before they had it in stock. Got it and loved it. But it had a defect.. Sent it back. Now again waiting for re-stock. Anyway... when I had it it was a delight despite all that

I often used a dirt cheap bringer usb sound card thing directly plugged into my iPad or phone and recorded straight to camera app or AUM. Does not get cheaper than that (https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail … -interface) if you have an iOS device already. But Behringer...
