xyce says:
We've got the advantage that we're with two guys, and got quite some experience in cooperating songs with little time. So one of us just starts and the other continues and so forth. This way we can finish tracks pretty fast and with not that much amount of time. I make music in between 'things' so after diner, or on my day off.

Tristan Louth-Robins says:
No kids, just a lovely patient/thoughtful/intelligent partner who's also an artist. The only issue is that during the past year we moved into a smallish place which means we're sharing a studio/study space*, which can get a little hard to work with when I want to pull things out into the space and there's delicately placed cutout collages from old National Geographics all over the floor.

* I'll upload some photos to the gear porn thread once I tidy the space up a bit. Though the intense summer in Adelaide at the moment is making it difficult to do anything like this in the immediate future.

paul raygun says:
Sinewave, agree. This is all about improving workflow and hopefully this translates to better music in areas I've never written prior. There will be a number of clunkers yet I'm going to say at the end of the year I'll have fragments, keepers and few that just require a little extra tweak to make the don't usable by me.

Also I'm on lunch break sitting in the sun working on lyrics. .
sinewave says:
Well said, an0va...it *can* be done and maybe the results won't always be perfect but several times out of 52 you will be pleased and surprised. In 2k12 it speeded up my workflow so much that I managed to put out other stuff during the week for competitions and such (and won)...wb is totally good for you

an0va says:
What works for me I think is to not take it so seriously. I mean, the only thing you should take seriously is: "I'm going to write a song a week." Don't be too serious on all the other stuff. You're not going to write Bohemian Rhapsody. I mean, if you do, then fuck yeah. Right on.

My logic is that there are a countless number of professional (and even touring) musicians that are also family men/women as well. More often than we think - it's definitely doable, but you have to structure it a bit differently. You aren't going to be able to stay up all night and work on a track, but maybe you can put aside 20minutes a day before going to bed. I tend to believe that the notion that "the longer that you work on a track, the better it will be" is a only a strong correlation at best. Maximize your efficiency and pump out ideas. There are many people that successfully put out creative output will full-time jobs + family responsibilities, don't lose hope!

Annoying through the day when I'm working really hard on something and my dog is just sat there whining at me to let her out or play with her etc. She's a proper attention seeker.
