Death Grips - Exmilitary, one of the most unique and raw albums I've ever listened to

I didnt listen that much music from 2011..I got into Kvelertak last year and their album had american rerelease last year so if that counts, it was probably one of the things I listened most. Awesome mix of Turbonegro style straight up rocknroll, Entombed and Andrew WK. Also seeing reactions of TRUE METALHEADZ was really funny.

Sabrepulse's First Crush EP was hands down my favorite album of 2011.  it single-handedly restored my faith in electronic music at a time when so much shitty dubstep was hitting the electronica scene.  it also went a long way to showing me that gameboys can be used as a part of a greater work of art.  it blends so many of my favorite musical genres together seamlessly into a cohesive and thoroughly entertaining album.  basically, its the best fucking album ever.

my favorite metal release was Oranssi Pazuzu - 'Kosmonument' but there were a TON of great metal albums last year imo. http://8tracks.com/xenochronic/2011-met … s-up-to-11

also lots of good non-metal stuff, but I have't really decided what my fave is yet... if there is even a favorite. lots of good stuff. Vladislav Delay - 'Vantaa' is great... new Tom Waits was pretty good. Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble's 'Stairwell' also really good. Chicago band Cave had a very metronomic but good krautrock styled album last year as well.

I'm going to have to give this weeks round up a miss again. I have not the energy nor time to sit and listen through all of the entered tracks and then elaborate an opinion on a large fraction. I'll give a few songs a listen and post my opinions as replies, but for this week I'm out! I feel the odd need to apologise as if I've let some people down (myself included) but I'll nail my hands to my keyboard next week and make sure I crack out a worthy round up.

I figure our most favourite thing of last year is going to be one of our biggest musical influences this year, right?
What was your favourite release of 2011!?

Mastodon's The Hunter for me, for a few reasons:
1. They've been my favourite band for years
2. After their previous album (which as outstanding) I was slightly worried they'd fall into the "accessibility pit" and become far too 'mainstream', however, they instead used to rise to new heights of fucking brilliance
3. Most of the songs are just too kickass
