I think I've done that every week. I guess its probably a good thing

I've been using 52 weekly beats as an excuse to get better with Famitracker. So far it has forced me just to try things. This week I wrote a piece in 9/8 with some metal thrown in 2. And I finally broke the 3 minute mark on a song. Next up : Learn how to write a proper ending.

As for time, I like to make as much as I can and submit. If you only get a 50 second song out of me, so be it. I wish I didn't have an engineering day job and I could just sit at home and write music all day. One day maybe ...

it's all about practise and forcing myself to be creative.
sometimes something good happens and sometimes it stinks but i'm having fun with it. it's the journey, not the destination(s)

@ctrix If I understood trash80 correctly when he first explained WB to me.. the whole point is to be able to exercise yourself so that you CAN release quality tracks in a week.. so putting out a few stinkers is to be expected.

this project's gotten me really productive. this week i've already finished a track, and i'd rather keep it secret for a release, so i'm working on a second track, and i even really like it!

I keep most of the stuff just here and dont hype them anywhere else, only the better ones I promote lil bit on Facebook and thats that. I know what you mean though, I have my first commercially sold EP hitting webstores this sunday and I hope nobody has any prejudices because my often zero self critic way to post jams here and there:)

Nah, that's totally legit, man. Here soon, my work is gonna ramp up considerably and I might have to put it down for awhile, so I kinda understand what you're saying. Finishing a weekly beat just isn't as important as doing well at your job. (...or is it?)

Hahaha.  I'm totes fine with Andrew - I'll be be the first one smiling at a "no comment" review if I throw together something hap-hazard.  I simply have a personal quality-control alarm that I have to let go of.   There is no reason I can't hit rec on an improv piano solo and be done in 30 mins.  I'm just a little worried about making what I consider low quality tracks for public release.

@ctrix yeah. what's the deal. why does andrew ride your nuts so hard? I mean. you are talented.. but still.. it's kinda annoying. He sounds like one of those chicks back in beatlemania-land. Im kinda anti having the reviews at all.. I'd much prefer that people express constructive criticism than turn this place into a popularity contest. I dont think thats what trash80's original intention was.

If you're worried about people having too high of an expectation you should make a second account under a secret name and just continue there.

I don't know if I can continue doing WB for too much longer.  I just have too high an expectation of my music to get something done if I've had a busy week.  I don't actually have the ability (other than improv on a piano) to get a tune done quickly.  It's starting to eat into my personal life, and most certainly eating my "get the release finished" time... so I might pull it back to a monthly thing and make that my challenge.  Tune a week = too much.  That said, if I can still enjoy it, and find a way to do some quick / fast tunes without staying up all night on the Sunday and sleeping though meetings the next day, then I'll keep going.  The second it becomes a major stress or cause problems it'll be Monthly Melodies for me. :-P  Maybe I can just do short one minute jams on a DMG or something... we'll see.

I did 100 songs in 100 days last year so I'm really enjoying this weekly thing!  My holidays will be over soon so I'll have to get organised a bit more.
