What Will I Do?

Continuation from last week, building into an EP at least worth of material derived EXCLUSIVELY from the sample mentioned last week. Everything in this track - as with last - is made from this sample. Everything.

Same techniques as last week. I wrote a blog about last week's including a bit of stuff about motivic development using sidechains.

interesting idea/technique, also like that it is an ep all on one sample! what is "motivic development"? does that feedback compressor vst you mentioned have sidechain capability?

Cheers! Motivic development, as in developing a theme through variation. In this case (and last week's) I used the sidechain function with Live's compressor to create rhythmic motives with the bass sound, that were then split apart from the drum part and enter at points adjacent to the drum part from which they're derived. You get a sense of the rhythmic motive throughout both works in this way. The sidechain in last week's was also applied to the distorted sound and this week to the stereo L/R sound and the destroyed sample.

I've not actually tried that feedback compressor yet! So I'll let you know when I do.

Digging the sound design on this one, especially the muffled sounds that sound like whispers.

An excellent continuation of last week's piece.  Somewhat desolate.  Very enjoyable!

Thanks man. Yeah, I had a lot of fun destroying the original sample.
