Satay

By fc on May 28, 2016 8:01 am

It started with the DC offset parts of last week. Then I hex edited it a bit. Then I SPEAR edited the crap out of it. Then I Ableton-ed it. Then I exported it. Then I made it an mp3. Then I uploaded it.

That is the story of Satay.

Very nice. I really like the multi-step process and the use of datamoshing to treat and generate material. It's very 21st century in that respect, yet it still captures the feel of the likes of Stockhausen. A nicely focused idea with a good sense of development. Very engaging.

Yes, Stockhausen, in the sense of something comprehensibly thought-out and worked-through. Your process description is a hoot.

Thanks very much, gents. I really quite like being compared to the man from Sirius.

Quite impressive effort considering you started from random data. Your technique is always interesting to watch/hear. smile

Well it was part of the piece from last week, but now I want to make something that IS random data as a starting point. Thanks for the idea and the compliment and the listening. smile

Yeah, the results are like the ghost coming out of the machine.

This gif is made from 100% real gif meat.

So cool to hear what you've done with those DC offsets!  It's like the soundtrack to what happens in the main computer of a probe thrown into a temporal rift.

Ahaha, excellent. It better be organic, grass fed gif meat.

Thanks! Awesome description, hah! Thanks for the inspiration, too.

Excellent experiment, awesome textures!

unsettling and brutal mechanics, waves of shaken sheets of sharpness, oasis-like storms of nails, creepy lights from unidentifiable places, yet somehow made me listen
