Gathering Gravy

By fc on March 4, 2012 10:56 am

This is an improvisation which has been modified a bit. The musicians are me (Vincent Giles) on bass and computer stuff and Alice Bennett on bass flute.

FINALLY the year is catching up to me, and the last week has been filled with the publishing of three scores and some related things, such as fixing up margination and whatnot. Plus University is back on (finally) and I'm finding myself increasingly stretched for time. I think the worst thing though is that I'm finding it hard to come up with ideas for WB now as I put my mind back toward research and folio development (plus publication). So please excuse it if you don't like this, congratulations if you do! Consequently to being busy, it's also a rather rushed last minute job. Such is life!

I will probably try and include research into my weekly beats submissions now, as I can't think of any other way I'll be able to do it. Expect some short piano works...

Anyhoo!

Onward, upward, forever spiralling...

(Alice Bennett grants her permission for the use of this)

Nice piece dude. What's your inspiration for the title?

Thanks man. I said to Alice "think of a word, an adjective or a verb" and she came up with "gathering", and I said "think of another one!" and she said "grainy", but I heard it as "gravy".

I don't get it.

Nice one.  The bass flute and bass work well together especially the bass harmonics.  Gotta love impro.  Was the computer side of things generative?

Thanks man. Not generative, just messing with plugins in Ableton and trying to generate a kind of structure to something somewhat unstructured in nature.

thats awesome dude. cant wait to hear your uni stuff mix with you WB stuff

It could be good! Thanks for the comment mate.

nayce. I really enjoy your pieces! (:

Thanks, Iran! Ditto for your music. big_smile

I feel like I am watching the original Star Trek when they go down to a planet and there is a guy (that looks like the one in the .gif) who comes out and says hello and everything seems to be fine but really sneaky things are happening.

Hah, that made me lol. Thanks, PWR! I should add old Star Trek to-watch list?
