Front and Back (Suburban House)

By fc on March 16, 2012 4:54 am

Ah, this feels better. I feel better about this week's piece compared to last week's. Much better. I got my hands on a Zoom H4n, well, the borrowing of it. It's a lot of fun to record things, and you find the most fascinating sounds! Such as the extreme rhythmic quality of my back porch roof expanding.

This also contains little fragments of some piece of music by Rachmaninoff (the dude's long dead, no copyright infringement) due to my partner practicing (and permission given, of course).

I attempted to create a listening environment that if viewed topographically would contain dense 3D counterpoint. Not sure if succeeded, but I only spent about half hour on it.

Hooray!

Cool sound scape. What is that sound in the lower left? some kind of bird?

Good question! The lower left that appears almost immediately is a raven or crow, the flute might be heard in lower left at times? That'd be the rachmaninoff. And there's also the expanding roof sound. Not sure which one you mean!

Sorry lol i'm wearing headphones. Almost sounds like a guy going WAH WAH WAH i'm assuming a bird but a weird ass bird.

Hahaha! I think that's the raven or crow or whatever it is. GWAH, GWAH, GWAH sounds like a raven...

so relaxing. love that distant rachmaninoff

ha nice! it appears we both had similar ideas for this week. interesting to hear... only criticism I'd have is if it were a little louder.

@Parallelis: thanks man!
@George: yeah, I thought about increasing it, but I really like the dynamics, and of course, the volume knob on speakers... can't get into a loudness war with ourselves!

Don't mention the loudness war!  Rad layering of sound - that flute in the BG is pretty intense

Alice is rad at teh flute eh. Nice piece, I feel like I am at your house (which should be an event of this week methinks)

@cTrix: I try not to, but it comes around so often, y'know? Thanks for the compliments man!
@Nathan: Yeah she is, really getting good at the moment with so many gigs happening, too. She has two concerts this week, so I'd hazard a guess that this week will be pretty solidly full. Perhaps next?

Sounds good to me.

nice work! oh hello, familiar sound of Melbourne suburbs. oh oh homesick.

Enjoyed this the flute was nice(though all I could think of was Gabe form the office when Jim asks him what kind of music he writes and he replies with soundscapes... haha)

This is a cool piece.  Quite an interesting listen.  And yes, that would be a crow.  smile

Oceans: thanks very much!

PWR: I haven't seen the Office. sad Glad you liked it!

Rdomain: Thanks! big_smile
