Cloud Etude

By fc on January 18, 2014 11:35 am

Realised in Pure Data with touch ups in Live.

It's 80bpm. All synths by me. There are, at any given time, between 8.33 and 20 impulses per second in any ONE channel. Sometimes all four channels are going at the same time, so there are up to 80 impulses per second at some points in this piece. This is not even close to the edge of human perception in this area, which is my area of interest. This is a prototype for a study for my research, though I consider it, in its own right, complete.

is this the result of that insane screenshot you posted on FB?

Cool man.  I love the concept and I enjoy the spatial sound of the piece.  Very effective.

I like being compared to Stockhausen, makes my head large. smile

Interesting prototype piece. Looking forward to hearing the piece that will be used in your research.

12pm Sunday at Testing Grounds! smile

Interesting. I like how it's  having super fast but somehow recognizable rhythms (might be my brain playing me tricks though).

Sounds more like Mort Subotnick to me.

Not familiar with him. Googled. Will check out some of his work. Thanks for that!

Yeah, the speed of impulses creates slower, more discernible wave forms and the pitch variations create rhythm. Thanks for listening!

He did the 1st piece of electronic music specifically for record (Silver Apples of the Moon, 1966). I worked for him and his wife (singer Joan La Barbara) from 1986 - 1998.
