Canon in Pee (For Piano)

My ode to Pachelbel. I had the unfortunate experience a couple of years ago of playing my own arrangement of Canon in D, by Pachelbel, at a wedding. It's just… you know those pieces of music that make you want to gouge your eyes out with a rusty spoon when you hear them? Not because it's a bad piece of music, but because it's been played, ripped off, re-presented and basically abused so much. Well, that's how I feel about Canon in D. I was massively strapped for time this week (and will be again this coming week - but if you happen to live in the SW of Victoria, email me) and didn't know what to do. So I used some software I've been working on in Max to do a granular rearrangement of my Movement Study #1; each grain is 25ms long. I have a phasor~ problem to get playback speed for the grains correct, but it's otherwise nearly there. But I cranked that up and got this neat percussion thing. I suspect that what we are hearing is at least partly the aliasing that 2d.wave~ provides.

Then dropped the output into Live and made a literal canon out of it. It's Canon in P(iano), but thought that everyone needs an obnoxious title at least once in their WeeklyBeat career.

Onwards, upwards, comrades.

Fucking Pachelbel.

It's just a chord progression -- though I doubt Johann would recognize your (very intriguing) adaptation.

Not just the chord progression - the melody and that hellish repeating cello part! Gaaargh!

Just to be clear, there's nothing from the original in this work. Only thing it has in common is that it's a canon. wink

Glad you like the track though!

The rest is "but business is business."

Dig the stereo separation and that tone at the end is an ear cleanser!

And in true WB tradition...
