Bioluminescence

This is the first time I've really struggled to make something. Been working on a gnarly other patch and decided to do a live patching test of my recently gained knowledge. Apparently it wasn't enough, so while this was done live, this is just an excerpt of it as it went for a while. This is the bit that I find most enjoyable.

Omni condensor mic in my backyard running via a possibly fucked mic lead into a Zoom H4n and then my laptop. Otherwise all Max 6 with a bit of normalisation and EQ done in Audacity prior to mp3-ing.

Quite an abstract piece.  You would of never of guessed the source material.  Also some usable sounds for further construction  smile

Speaking of making useable sounds. I'm considering using multiple instances of the same patch to output multiple, somewhat varied mono wave forms for later construction.
Thanks too!

Varying each patch slightly or varying the sound source it's picking up?  Max was on sale over Easter but I didn't buy.  I think I've decided that I don't have enough time to get proficient with it. :-/   I can spend an eternity with my modular alone I think.  I've got an Elektron Octatrack landing this week too so that's got a decent learning curve too.  Most of the awesome shit does.  Totally fine with that!  big_smile

Same source, varied output though. For example, if you set the number of rows in 2d.wave~ to really high, you get tiny little "grains" of the sound (depending of course on the length of the sample being manipulated), and get really neat effects if you cycle through them. Also changing the X and Y phasor speed does neat things, and the phase of the Y, and stuff.
I'm really enjoying this Max stuff. I've put off giving it a good shot since 2012, and am finding it more useable for a lot of stuff than PD, just that objects are different and that's frustrating as hell. So as I need to learn an object's function well, I'm making smaller, quick patches to test my knowledge. I should start a "patch a day" project or something...

Nice.  A patch a day would be good.  I could do a similar thing for the modular except if I want to explore the options further I can't.  The catch 22 of modular synthesis.  Reading your patch makes me want to dive into max tho!  Haha.  Your description sounds like a combination of granular and vector synthesis.  Both of which I enjoy.  8-)

You could document it?
It's somewhat like granular but it's sampling, rather than synthesis.

I am not worthy.

Did I tell you how inspiring one of your tracks was a few weeks ago? If not, it was.

really starts to get good at 1/3 of the way through, then captivation!

You know that's how I roll Georgie!

Glad you like it.

Gesundheit, little fishy.

Nice patch--I really like the way this grows.  Well done!
