Some Typa Passion(fruit)

I started this literally yesterday with the full intent for this to be a shitty sound design session. My friend that is currently living overseas in Vietnam sent me a clip of her singing with guitar that sounded so beautifully recorded for just an iphone mic compared to some other clips she has sent me. I recently went through my old recordings of me and her playing clarinet and saxophone songs together from college, so she gets a double feature here. Outside of the breaks, I think there are only 3 samples used here? It was difficult to make all the transitions work because of the limitations, but man the ideas were just flowing out of me.

I also tried REALLY hard to experiment with ducking sounds, which is new to me. It was cool to hear how the mix immediately started opening up once I started compromising on how I wanted sounds to enter the space. The vocal track in the big sections fading in and out was initially always going, and that was no good for the mix.

Meets people, sorry for the length! I tried to be more considerate to letting sections live longer / transition into new ones. I am hoping that makes for a less jarring experience that grooves for longer.

I’ll share the bundle for this one if you reach out to me! The vocal track won’t sound correct since I ran it through an ipad fx lane.

The vocals in this kind of sound like a demonic version of Destiny's Child. Good combo with the breaks.

good fuckin lord, man

Your sound design always amazes me. When this takes off at the minute mark? Ye gods. Absolutely love how you approach electronica like a composer...elements of modern classical are great. The breaks and sections are fantastic - love your sample use, and the ways you creatively chop and mangle. This has movements.

More random thoughts. That bass at 4 minutes! And then those chord stabs. Love how they mesh with the vocal sample. Noisy chaos at 5 minutes. Silence at 6:20 made me wonder what chaos was coming and was NOT DISAPPOINTED. Holy crap what an amazing end. Wild filter work at 7:30 or so.

Never worry about length - long works with *intention* are good stuff. This flew by in the meetup. heart

awesome use of the vocal sample - also really like the panning - makes me just swirl into space (in a fun way)

5:20 fake ending with wonky guitar chord breakdown and then SAXOPHONE?

this is so good

oh wait there are two min left ok now there is a dog coughing???

this was totally wild - shoutout to the coughing dog that was my favorite

Only three samples? An 8-minute track? You're kidding me!
That's really squeezing and using the material you have in hand to the fullest, kudos for that!
6:30 and on is pure madness (bliss).
