Head Split Summer

Had a lot of fun with this track. M8 time spent says 8 hours on this track. Minutes 1:00-3:30 I am so proud of. Honestly, the other sections are there just because I wanted to pad the time. The heart of the piece is in that middle chunk. I think you’ll feel it.

Obviously, lots of sample magic happening here. Deckard Cain from Diablo with a time stretch pitch effect, one of my orchestra pieces (you can hear the high oboe throughout as the envelope decays), fun stuff with breaks, some vocaloid from Bobby and I’s project last week. Also stole Plong’s double bass patch. My orchestra piece I used here is the gift that keeps on giving. I can literally move the start to any part of the 13 minute piece and have a complete timbral shift. It’s like an infinite instrument generator. Probably 1 in 4 tracks has this same song incorporated in some way.

Tried really hard to make this flow pretty seamlessly and stick MOSTLY to 5/4, which is something I wanted to practice. Usually when I do my odd time stuff, it’s like 4 bars of 4/4 with a 3/16 tagged onto the end. So it ends up still being mostly 4 bar phrases. I get intimidated by the brainpower needed to manage keeping track of chains of 3 + 2 + 3 + 2 + 3 + 2. So, I practiced. I think the grooves sound so fresh.

I am hosting the bundle for this one if you’d like to peep: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/rh05rk0rx01lf3alrnndf/HEDSPLIT_SMMR.zip?rlkey=m6u6gszs7fqmxfhomiueatt2f&st=bgbq54vh&dl=0

Thanks for listening. Hope you are all doing ok.

That weird panning hand-pan sound towards the end is very cool. Nice work.
