this week was a super weird one. last week i played around with a chomsky lecture clip and it ended up being too large of a file (17mb) which i didn't realize until submitting it too close to the deadline so i missed out. anyways chomsky was chomskying. pulled that up to re-listen this week, and got started with dubler to beatbox a beat pattern. i don't know music theory, but the pattern wasn't lining up with 4/4, so i had to play around with it to realize it was in 7/8 (learned something!), and i had just been talking to a friend about time signatures, "so great, let's play in 7/8" i thought to myself.

then this choral rap line came to mind, and i just improvised and flowed from there. probably inspired to go for it thanks to

. and you know, getting out of your comfort zone is how you grow.

tried not to overthink it, and an old 2016 song exploder episode of chvrches came to mind that really influenced me, where they talk about just starting with any pseudo-lyrics, or scat, or vocalized feelings and proto-words, and going from there, so i trusted the process for whatever was coming out. a semi-theme started to emerge underneath, but it's up for anyone's interpretation of course.

i don't think the rhythms of my words and the beat line up too well, but i thought the flow was decent, and went for a destructed almost punkrapwhatever vibe.

fun overall. the focus on vocals and playing with that took away from adding more music production layers, but i think that stripped down rawness "play these chords" is why "punkrap" came to me as a genre or something.

anyways...

run and tell em
run run and tell em
run and run and tell em
run run and tell em
run and tell em
run run and tell em
run and run and tell em
oh oh i tell em

sell em
fellas
bellas
killas

for the dollars
holler
grab em by the collar

redirect the neck
if you can’t be bothered
fathers

praying to the sky
for the dramas

wish you would
wish you could
follow this line
follow this rhyme
to the ends of this
diorama

modeling the systems
and their probllamas
so many to choose from
but what is their centaura?

half horsing around
i’ve found
paradounds
of thought
caught
up in the mix
not a fix
just a list
must be hits
what is this
words from lips
sinking ships
people in fits
would prefer bliss
so

run and tell em
run run and tell em
run and run and tell em
run run and tell em
run and tell em
run run and tell em
run and run and tell em
oh i try to tell em

-

well um
hmm
let’s see
is this about greed? indeed
sow seeds
beyond you and me
capesh?

got me feeling release
and the piece
of the peace
from southwest
to northeast

that’s a slash
to the beast
that’s a crash
at the feast
that’s a dash
of belief
matter fact
that’s a sieve
sifting words
to perceive

a different way

different way

a different way

different way

a different way
a different way
different way
a different way
so

try to tell em
oh i try to tell em
try to tell em
oh i try to tell em see
run and tell em
oh i try to tell em
try to tell em
yeah i try to tell em see
run and tell em
oh let's try to tell em
run and tell em
yeah let's try to tell em see
run and tell em
yeah let's try to tell em
try to tell em
