happy new* (*culturally agreed upon) orbit around our star

boy was i excited to get back into it. i was re-listening to all the tracks i made 2(!) years ago and seeing all the progress and what i wanted to work on. i was revisiting kind comments from the community. i was realizing that i got a lot of shit out last time, so i can make even more shit this time. i'm pumped. i also had wanted to keep making music last year during the "off" year, but alas, didn't really happen. but i just started back up again thanks to the wb format and communal efforts.

i know we had nearly a full week to create and submit the first track of this year, but i squandered that with other "getting ready for the new* year" things. nevertheless, i set aside time today to just be, play, create, make and get something out. i decided i wanted to do something to ring in the new* year and so things started with some chimes that i layered some gongs onto, and struck 12 with. originally i wanted it to break into a jungle kind of beat and found some samples for that, but it wasn't quite working. so then something else started to emerge and i went with that. it actually ended up feeling like a deadmau5 track, and i reminded myself that i had just watched some more of the deadmau5 masterclass vids i (still) haven't finished (i got it in 2016/2017...), where he told a story of finishing a track originally called "Track 3" or something and then his manager called him and said "you have to name that track right this second because i'm going to hit send to the album pressers" and deadmau5 replied "ok, we'll call it 'right this second'". i hadn't heard of that song, so i looked it up and it must've embedded in my memory because as i was making this song, some of the pieces felt familiar and when i looked up 'right this second' again, sure enough, there was the underlying inspiration, and then the somewhat model arrangement i then used to study and see what to add and build with.

› the funniest part is...

2024 let's (let that shit) go!

I love how the arp speeds up at 00:43 just before the drop. Kind of like in a video game, just before your power-up runs out.

Also, I managed to finish reading the "spoiler" section of your post right at the same time the track ended, and I literally laughed out loud. It's perfect that way.

im looking forward to your week 2 track kicking off right after the "drop it"

I was also excited for Weekly Beats returning in 2024. It seems like it's just the right cadence to grow without sacrificing other commitments.

Good track to start the year with, I wish it was longer!

strong start, this year is going to be sick

mean bass. very rude sound. keep it coming.

thank you for being the first to listen to this first track for the year! and your feedback on the arp speed inspired me to play with that some more on this week (week 4)'s track. appreciate you letting me know what you liked! awesome that you got a synchronous experience with the spoiler and the track. one person/creator's 'mistake' is another person/experiencer's 'that worked for me'

week 2's track was basically wholly inspired by this comment. thanks for giving this one a listen and for your encouragement to continue it!

appreciate you giving it a listen! any tips for helping make tracks longer without it becoming too repetitive? i usually use simple loops, so i suppose i could work on building more complex or longer ones, or i usually try modifying some parameters or flipping some of the notes/clips to try a new experience on the simplicity.

appreciate the bass callout - been trying to get better at my low ends. got a sub so i could hear what's going on down there better. will be a focus for this year!

Really nice intro to the year
