had some more time this week, and feel pretty good about where this landed for maybe...3-4 hours instead of my usual 1-2.
1. went with the flow for what felt right in the moment. including some vocals and non-planned words expressed.
2. once i got my parts down, i ended my session to come back to arrangement at a later time/day. but i left some possible arrangement notes in the project before leaving it as a possible place to pick up from.
3. but then it made me think of another song i loved from maybe..8 years back 'love song - romare' and i remember tips about studying other arrangements (and mix levels) to improve one's own. so i pulled 'love song' into ableton and it was almost exactly the same bpm i was playing in already (!) so left it there
4. on my 2nd session of maybe an hour or so, i listened to romare's arrangement and shifted my arrangement notes to match when he was bringing in and out certain elements.
5. then i played around with my clips and elements to make it unique to this song and what felt good
6. demo'ed it for my friend, and she said "i like the dynamism, it keeps changing" (thanks romare!)
7. added my master chain and tweaked accordingly (still working on this and mixing while i go)
happy with it
