dig up the past
all we'll find is ruin
but from that
we shall learn

while trying to open ableton to start my song this week, my mac spotlight search decided to find an old file folder also named ableton from nearly 10 years ago when i started playing around and learning. i opened the folder and found this old very basic session. that was my inspiration and so i took the drums, made some modifications, kept most of the original instruments i used, but made some new synthlines. i liked the idea of excavating the past and learning from it. it's fun to think of how past me didn't know that future him would be learning from his work and building off it.

i really wanted the space before the drop to be more epic, but couldn't quite figure out how to make it sound like i imagined in my head. probably would need to spend more time thinking through my mixing and mastering and where the interference is. but i'm liking using weekly beats to practice builds and drops and learning about the nuances for even just one. rinse and repeat. like the dust off an old archaeological site.

heart those plucked string synths - is that stuttery effect via delay or modulation? Oooooh that drop! Like a gust of wind blowing you down. The drums in the last half are super groovy

I love that you took something from the past, but then take it in a direction past you probably would never have done.
The beat really lifts everything off to 11. Sick track

I love the feel of this one - a little heavy & big sounding, but moving fast and light.

i think i did a mix of both, but mainly an lfo modulation for the stuttering. and the drop isn't as pronounced as i'd like and i think i forgot to turn off the phaser for it so it has some harsh resonance to it that i wanted to avoid, but it definitely does hit like some wind!

aiming for being our ancestor's (including past us') wildest dreams smile glad the beat gave some driving energy - like a good archaeological dig
