W07 - Brute Forced M8 Track

By ENC_ on February 20, 2022 2:02 pm

I was talking about possibly finishing a song in M8 for weekly beats in the WB Discord and I was told to "DO IT" by Impbox. I did it. It took some effort but it got done.

Finished a half-made forgotten file I had started many months ago. Results to me are just fine. Used generative sequencing and traditional sequencing to help the track along and give variations to loops. After I made a one-take stereo recording directly from my M8 into a chain of "coloring box" and into my recorder.

I HOPE YOU ARE HAPPY IMPBOX.

Gear used:
Dirtywave M8
TR-606 (Drum samples)
Elektron Rytm (Drum Samples)
Elektron Octatrack (quick parallel compression for output signal)
Elektron Analog Heat (Color treatment for a compressed signal at the end of the chain)
Tascam DR-40 (recording device)

Congrats on finishing!  This has a complex feeling to it that reminds me of the mood from "Risk of Rain".

Whoa, I AM REALLY HAPPY! this is a banger of a track! Congrats!

Dynamic is a word that comes to mind

Sounds great! Kudos to impbox.

How's the Analog Heat, btw?

I love it. It can be useful for aggressive overdrive, distortion, and fuzz effects but I actually find the subtle coloring settings (saturation and enhance in particular) to be where it shines.

For me it gets the most use warming up live mixes or tracks, playing with audio-triggered filters gates, and giving digital sounds a touch of analog flavor. For the price, it's a great sound design/studio tool and decent end-of-change live coloring box but I think it's not for everybody. Processing has to be real-time recorded so it can slow down some workflows.
