W16 - Moving Slow

By ENC_ on April 16, 2024 10:56 am

Frustrated with output. Running out of excitement with current processes. There are no silver bullets. Picked up Nope, Arrival, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Work out and reading lowered output. Disappointed, no results in testing Meds as of writing. Arrival is easily my favorite movie having re-watched and replaces Alien for the top spot. "To know is to not know is to know". Said good bye to N&K before they move. talked with L about old times. Had an emotional reversion most of the week. Achieved hard reset Friday. Feeling more even with slight rejuvenation. Helping partner's family and celebrating their mother's birthday. Uncle sick in hospital.

Tried the Notaklon for it's intended use. Ended up enjoying playing guitar for the immediacy (it's been many years since I played). It was my first instrument I taught myself in the early 2000s. I always played by ear. Not knowing what the end results are going to be is refreshing. Burnt out on my normal productions. Song evolved from parts made while exploring. Lyrics made in the shower. Remembered watching Ben levin video on lyrics a while back.

I've been enjoying listening to the singer song writers on this site more then others making similar music to myself. Thought I'd try and recreate some of the more traditional music I was doing in high school. I wanted to see if I could improve one my limited skills from the time. Enjoyed the challenge though still I don't play well and I am out of practice with singing (It's been 15 to 16 years since I tried this stuff). recording tech helped. It's fine as a demo but a bit underwhelming. Being bad is fun though. Many things to learn and try when revisiting.

There are more lyrics and parts I made but decided this is enough for what I want to do. one verse and one chorus. Acoustic guitar tracks recorded with laptop microphone. Started as a test then eventually added more appropriate equipment as the recording process got further. SM58 for vocals. Direct line in for electric guitar with Ableton stock amp sims.

Kudos for trying/returning to a different style/modality of music-making. I think this makes for a compelling track, hope it's not the last of your vocal/guitar submissions smile Laptop microphone sounds great here. Embellishments like the higher synth and plucky sounds add so much character. I was totally wowed by Arrival and would be hard pressed to come up with a movie I like more. Sending good thoughts to you and your uncle heart

Pretty cool, indie vibe, with some cool keys(?) adding a good bit of texture to this

Thank you for the encouragement. It was a good break from my normal stuff. I might have another go in the future if things line up again. I was surprised the laptop mic wasn't as bad as I had expected.

I keep coming back to Arrival it's one of those movies that really sticks with you. Happy to share my Uncle is doing much better too. Thanks for listening!

Thanks for checking it out. Funny enough the keys are a Roland Juno software emulation. I could have used my actual juno but sometimes convenience wins out tongue

A bit of guitar playing is always good for those slumps, and it turned into a cool tune here!

Will check out Nope, thanks for the tip!
