Sega Genesis-ish synthesis

By ENC_ on February 23, 2014 3:47 am

I didn't have much time this week to produce so isn't really flushed out as much as I normally do it. This is done with Chipsound's SMS emulation of the Texas Instruments SN76489A and ableton's operator. The writing is done to the specs of a sega genesis/megadrive's sound capabilities. I would have pulled out my GENMDM and done it on the real thing but as i said i was pressed for time this week and the current tools i have for controlling the thing slow down my work flow a lot.
I created this because of a conversation I had. I remembered that had a discussion  with a friend of mine about the machine's capabilities and he expressed a belief that Sega's FM synthesis wasn't really capable of more gentle sounds and always seemed to have a harsher timber. This example doesn't authentically prove anything but i think that for pads and things this might show off a side of the synthesis he might not have expected.

Awesome stuff!
