VOTE (the sacrifice of Emily Wilding Davison)

By emily on November 1, 2020 11:36 pm

the pressure was mounting

she knew

in her heart

(this is the way)

i'll make the king

(this is the way)

listen to us

(this is the way)

i'll make them listen to us

(this is the way i'll make them hear)

this is the way

this is the way

this is the way

we will not be silenced

we will be heard

"she snatched at the kings bridal - the flags were found under her jacket"

-the papers only cared about the horse

Really great lyrics.

This is beautiful, and haunting. Glad too, to now know her story. Can't believe it took a weeklybeats track for me to educate myself about her!

What a title .... and lyrics, wow! Powerful. This is haunting. Good you are telling this story now ... time to VOTE, yes.

Thank you all for listening.  I found out about Emily Wilding Davison on a BBC show called The 1900's House.  I wrote this song after doing some research & thought it would be a good time to remix & master it for a WB release.  There is a brief sequence with her in the 2015 film Suffragette that I highly recommend if you have not seen it.  It had not sunk in how far we have come and how far we still have to go until I watched that film & saw the end credit timelines.  I only recently understood that ALL Americans were not really given the right to vote until 1965!!! with the 1965 voting rights act.

55 years later... Kamala Harris!!!

Beautiful track.  Your vocals always create such a melodical atmosphere.  I just read a lil up on her and was shocked to see they had the video of her jumping in front of the horse, from 1913!  and yay Kamala!  Thank god 45 is on the way out smile
