Prince Escalus: Rebellious subjects, enemies to peace,
Profaners of this neighbour-stained steel,—
Will they not hear? What, ho! you men, you beasts,
That quench the fire of your pernicious rage
With purple fountains issuing from your veins,
On pain of torture, from those bloody hands
Throw your mistemper'd weapons to the ground,
And hear the sentence of your moved prince.
Three civil brawls, bred of an airy word,
By thee, old Capulet, and Montague,
Have thrice disturb'd the quiet of our streets,
And made Verona's ancient citizens
Cast by their grave beseeming ornaments,
To wield old partisans, in hands as old,
Canker'd with peace, to part your canker'd hate:
If ever you disturb our streets again,
Your lives shall pay the forfeit of the peace.
-Romeo & Juliet

"Society’s understanding of mental health issues locates the problem inside the person – and ignores the politics of their distress" - Dr Sanah Ahsan

Sorry to hear about your friend. I hope you can get some rest. =[

...At a loss for words at the second sentence in the piece. Heaviest one yet, which is saying a lot given everything else happening this year.

The article rom the Guardian you linked to is exceptional -- thanks for this, I'll forward it to a few friends who would appreciate it also (particularly the "depression is not caused by a chemical imbalance" bit).

And, lastly, I really like the music, the hard-as-coffin-nails percussion in particular in this.

i like the indifferent tone of voice in the vocals, like a distant newscast narrating something that makes me question how indifferent i've been to violent events going on everywhere around me, as if the song itself creates a tiny revolution in the mind heart

The theme is appropriate with the very recent release of Gabor Mate’s book “the myth of normal”, about our toxic modern societies and the impact they have on the mental health of its citizens.
The way the text is recited is very good. Mixing it in the back makes it nearly subliminal. The meow like leads are very interesting - taunting, ironical, against the deep beat.

thank you - i didn't know that mother well - i met her when she was just out of high school & her relationship ended decades back with the person in the local music scene who has stayed in touch... but i have met her beautiful son who sometimes comes to shows - my heart is just broken for him... we had a few nights of quiet last week - they were gifts!

i don't meant to be so heavy - it's just what keeps coming out when i sit down to work... thank you for mentioning that part of the article - i totally missed that link & also passed that on... i have been having a lot of thoughts that i had not heard verbalized like that article before quite in that way - it felt like a sigh - like finally we are talking about this as a wider culture...

that first 'romeo and juliet' prologue scene done as a tv news segment had popped into my head when i sat down to work on vocals for this... i was gonna sing but then all the headlines kept coming to mind swirling around... our brains are not really meant to take in all this trauma all the time - i started to see all the headlines play out as if it were in a play cause it was all feeling way to real & i feel like the fighting between the adult factions is just pouring out in violence with the young folks...

thank you - i thought of you when i saw this segment last night - thank you for sharing about this & putting gabor mate on my radar!

Another suh-weet use of your local surroundings to create a unique ambience.  It almost felt like a radio station was being dialed in as the news were read on the intro.  That is one sinister sounding bass synth.  I really like how it plays off the beat and sitar line.

Oh thank you for this! I'll need to watch it! His book "In The Realm of Hungry Ghosts" is a beautiful book, full of humanity. I highly recommend it.

It totally sounds like a newscast struggling to come through a stacicky radio station.  I couldn't understand every word, but there was enough to get the picture.  I've found I have to limit the amount of news I take in for my own mental health.  I know there are terrible things going on in the world, but the news makes it sound like it's complete anarchy out there everywhere all the time.  We're definitely not meant to live in a state of amped-up agitation all the time.
