are we safer in captivity?

“We need the tonic of wildness...At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature.”
― Henry David Thoreau

i'm trying to keep the pressure low this year but here are some goals:

- try to collaborate more

- get used to new computer & learn how to navigate this new version of garageband
(something i've been procrastinating)

- possibly try other programs/DAWs for recording & finalizing songs
(curious about reaper & ozone)

- challenge laptop only signal chain
(play more with real instruments & mics that you plug into an interface)

after this past couple years i'm keeping my expectations of myself very low

what are all your goals musically this year?

you stayin' alive?

thank you Joshua Wayne Hensley for playin' guitar, singing & finalizing this piece with ozone

Good to see you back! I missed your haunting soudscapes! I love the dark electronic on this one, and the guitar chord accents are a really nice touch.
You guys take care and hopefully we'll get the covid situation behind soon.

Welcome back! It's cool to hear this guitar with your ambient style, it sounds great!

glad to hear you back!

i like the haunting yet crunchy poppiness to this one!  really blooms nicely in the middle thanks to the guitar work.  sorry to hear that it's been challenging over there - hopeful to see what kinda progress will happen in the next month or two to offer us all some kind of reprieve.

haunting synth bass-line/drone

Awesome vibe on this.  Love the guitar and phasing baseline.

Nice to hear your voice again

Glad to see you back, em

i was in such a grumpy mood tonight - listened to your beat = don't feel grumpy any more... thank yoU! please pass on my love to your lady love! heart

Glad you made it back! I can hear the stress in this track, but it's still hauntingly beautiful. Hope you are doing ok in Indiana! I grew up in KY, which is right below both geographically and on the covid list.... wth is up with Kentuckiana?

I really like this track. The guitar sounds great and the vocals are, as always, haunting and excellent. I love the idea of setting collaboration as a small goal, and hope that results in some cool tracks. Like you, I'm keeping the pressure on myself really low this year; I just want to explore the tools I have and try to wrangle some soundscapes and interesting sounds out of it. All the best! smile

corn sweat & the soybeans are what's up (or they will be soon once it thaws) i hope any of your loved ones in KY are staying safe & were spared from the storms - i've got family in Barren Co. down there (Kentuckasee -isthatathing?) they've managed to dodge COVID19 & tornado's... i'm up in Michiana (thatisathing) smile

2022 =

wishing you a low stress 2022 full of beautiful soundscapes!

Love that grindy synth line that drives throughout the track.  The guitar really broadens out the comp.  Makes it sound so big.  Great vocal layers too.  Good to hear you back in 2022.  Enjoying your tracks on Bandcamp as well!

Sweet tune! So glad you're back. I look forward to hearing more! Stay safe out there!

thank you for checking them out!  i see we both couldn't resist another go with WB - hope your family is managing in all the current calamity & that all your keyboards are safely near you!

That buzzing synth sound throughout is huge and righteous sounding.  I'm feeling the exact same way about being uncertain about Weekly Beats and also keeping the pressure low this year.  Hang in there and hopefully the Covid situation improves soon.

thank you - hope you are all staying safe & healthy too!

I love the layering of voices here. So nice!
Goals: do more things. Don't get stressed about it (be kind to self).
C19 though, what a weird situation/time.

Stayin alive and grooving with this song. Gotta agree that the synth buzz is Righteous as hell, absolutely love it! I barely  made any music at all last year, and kinda started just resigning to just being excited for 2022 when Weekly Beats would start back up, and honestly it did work, but yeah, shit's weird right now.

i didn't either - i put some of the stuff i was working on from past WB into albums for bandcamp - but my creative brain was being used up with creative survival skills smile  "playing" is good for our brains though - that's how i found that synth buzz sound - i was just trying out sounds & i liked that & wrote the song around it - here's to bringing some fun to 2022!

great to see you again.  love the grindy buzz and the ethereal vocals.  the guitar drop is really hot, great job to your friend.  the track title is spooky (in a good way)

Good to see you back!  I'm always a fan of your vocal harmonies.  Love those lil pitch wavers in the vocal melody.  Here's to another productive fun year! smile

Welcome back, glad you're here! I like this groove, that buzz is awesome, vocals are great. The title is a good question indeed! Hmmm. I didn't know that about Indiana, wow. I'm in Washington, I wonder where we lie. It seems many are getting it after the holiday, scary times still. I just got it, but thanks to recent booster, I'm assuming, very mild symptoms, feeling grateful for that.

awe tempting = the hiking & wandering vibes - i have been thinking a lot  about through hiking...
however i'm a terrible climber with some fear of heights - so that vista kinda makes me feel panic...
i'm a short & wide person who's not very coordinated... i'm 5'3" with short arms and legs - my baby brother who is 6'3" is like a gazelle up the rocks... we tried to hike in Sedona and i ended up halfway up a mountain sitting on a on a nice rock ledge while i waited for my brother & our friend to reach the summit
i saw an eagle and some other animals friends while i waited so i enjoyed the vista i could manage smile
