When You Walked Out That Door

By E-dub on May 17, 2020 6:07 pm

Wrote this, played this, and recorded this over about 5 hours this morning. I don’t even know how to feel about it because I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything quite like it. Some of my songs get comments along the lines of, “that is reminiscent of...” but at don’t think I’ll get a comment like that here. But I still kinda like it. I get some weird ideas and some of my oddball experiments fail miserably but I think this one is a success. You?

---------------------------------------------------------------------

V1
You always made me feel like a million bucks
You always made me think that I had all the luck
But now you act like you don’t give a care
You shook me to the core
Babe when you walked out that door.

CH
The sun danced so bright in your hair
You swore that you’d always be there
I loved you like never before
No way I could ever love more
Than the day when you walked out that door.

V2
You always made me feel like such a man
Now I’m still doing the best that I can
Can’t you see that I’m your greatest Stan
Life became such a chore
Girl when you walked out that door.

CH

BR
The stars glinted bright in your eyes
The end came as such a surprise
You left me with nothing to feel
I guess it was never quite real to you

CH

Definitely different, but enjoyable! I like the backup vocals at the 1:40 mark. You said you wouldn't get a reminiscent, but I think if you mixed Phish and the Flaming Lips you'd get something like this!

Love it!  I got a few for you... bass lines like Human League/Heaven 17. Vocals like 80s band Strange Advance (has anyone heard of them?) That may be a stretch but it's the first thing that came to mind when the vocals came in. Love the original sound and expressive vocals.  Also, great classic melodies.  Dude, seriously, downloading this as I think I could listen to this on loop!  @Jokinen Flaming Lips I can see, that's a good one but I'm not getting the Phish vibe.

Vocals sound uniquely you to me.  The backing music reminds me a little of Ween.  Especially the bouncy synth line.  Less so the more piano driven part.  Maybe that's Soft Bulletin-era Flaming Lips as previously mentioned.  (Sorry had to take that as a challenge to find it reminiscent of something.)

It sounds just like an E-dub song.

Man, had to come back to this track again. Love it!

Thank you all. I was particularly proud of this one. Sorry I have been slacking and not responding much. Between quarantines and riots, my headspace is a bit foggy.
