The Apex Predator

By E-dub on January 14, 2018 8:10 pm

Back to writing lyrics and singing (and speaking also, I guess).  This song doesn't have any guitars or other stringed instruments or really any instruments that I played at all. I created it by building chords in G minor on a piano roll in Studio One and then creating melodies and a bass line from the notes in the chords. Then I did some other stuff.  Hope y'all enjoy it.  The fish are a metaphor, I think.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

It's the age old story of the rabbit and hound.
Will the old dog rest and lose this round?
If a shark stops swimming will it sink and drown?
Will all the little fishies celebrate?

The apex predator stalks its prey.
The apex predator stops to pray.
The apex predator's prey gets away.
She's not the apex predator today.

It's the age old story of boy meets girl.
Will she give up and chase a squirrel?
There are billions of fish in our little world.
Not every fish is going to get away.

The apex predator stalks its prey.
The apex predator stops to pray.
The apex predator's prey gets away.
She's not the apex predator today.

[spoken]
The otherwise unimpressive Homo Sapiens is one of the deadliest creatures on all land or sea.
Its opposable thumbs and advanced frontal and left parietal and temporal cortexes make the beast a true force of nature.

Back to your old tricks. It's nice to hear your voice again.

had a nice frank zappa vibe

I always enjoy songs with vocals.  That's some cool synth work, too.  It doesn't sound super synth-y if that makes sense.  Nice track.

This is excellent. Great lyrics.

Very good. Nice Zappa sort of thing sans a marimba or xylophone.

Thank you. I enjoy writing lyrics and singing even though sometimes I get writer’s block and other times my old vocal cords don’t want to cooperate.

I appreciate the listen and the feedback.

Thanks Jim. This was one of those ones where the hook popped into my head and the rest flowed out easily. The lyric writing literally only took about 10 minutes. I wish it was always that easy.

Thank you. I’ve come a long way with the sound engineering side of things and that makes a big difference.

You took me by surprise with that chippy atmosphere. You've got a pretty good imagination for lyrics Sir wink

And the talked part was quite cool

Now some predator scary GIF
