Ultra Square

Another full pivot hours before the deadline, I really need to stop doing this to my nerves. There was a mellow track in development but I couldn't find a nice melody. That one got parked for another week so I could do a 3 hour speedrun and build this solid brick of a track.

A couple of sounds like the upright bass and the riser were made during DJ Diskmachine's one hour jam. He hosts a session every other Tuesday on Twitch, where a couple friendly people come together and try to build a track using a random sample. After an hour we all send in what we have and listen to the results live on stream. It's a lot of fun and really tests your skills to quickly get something together. This week the sound was a fizzy drink can opening. The sounds I re-used in this WB track were actually made from a little bit of ambient noise present before the actual opening of the can.

Arranged and mixed on Dirtywave M8, some light mastering in Logic.

sound design goes nuts on this one, love the flammed lead and the brick bass. might be stressful but the formula is definitely working!

The sounds are absolutely great and the arrangement is really engaging. Hats off to you for making this in 3 hours!

Nice n hard! Loving the slippy synth... And that kick n bass is soon good 🩵

Fuzzy bass, punchy kick right from the get go. Unexpected arps.

That pluck is super cool.

Love this, it's got some great rhythm switch ups.

Oh...SO punchy. Love how it is bouncing between sploinky and menacing! Great sound design all around.

that 808 is beautiful oh m y dear god

Great sounds in here .- ..- very coreographic. cheers! keep up!

This has the vibe of being hunted. Love the main bass + kick motif and how the second kick is rushed as if some huge stomping creature is lunging at me. The first staccato square lead feels mischievous, all small, tense moves with faster and brighter runs. Which then makes the lower square solo feel like it has more natural timing (on top of its slides and rapid octave changes). And you always know how to make each section feel distinct, another mode in this cat-and-mouse game

I love the ominous yet high energy feel of this one. The contrast of the staccato percussion and plucks with the bass is really nice and makes them each stand out. Great work under the time crunch!

You make really comprehensive songs. If it's intentional, practice, or both - it's really well done. They aren't boring ever. When you introduce a new sound it makes sense in the theme.

This is wild mate
Didn't recognise the bass sound, u sure it was from one of my challenges? I remember i had one with a sample from a song from the 40s maybe it was that one?

Cheers mate! It's the double bass sound that comes in at around 0:45. That one was made from a random single cycle from the sample of a can opening, with a whole bunch of tweaking to make it sound the way it does. I'm sure it's totally unrecognisable from the original sample haha
