Recurring strain

By DrumurBoy on February 12, 2012 9:10 pm

Tough week. Didn't have much time or inspiration so this is an old idea reworked to a different style. Turned out ok just need more time lol.

C+C welcomed. What would you do with this if you had more time?

I really like it.  How did you compose and record this? The flute sounds very natural. My only criticism (just found out I don't know how to spell critisism) is some of the rhythm stutters or repeats seamed a bit forced.  Some blended well with the composition though. I would thin those out a bit, but beautiful composition!

Really great stuff man, this piece really got my attention quick! I'm rather enjoying everything you've done here!
Awesome Work :]

Awesome stuff, I would reduce the repetition of the stutters, but that`s only my personal preference, I enjoyed it all anyway, Great piece.

My only advice would be to have a look at JoJo Mayer's approach to repetition of phrase. That melody is really beautiful, I think you have done very well.

I guess if this were my composition and I had more time, I'd add dreamy female vocals. But yeah, this is supa-fresh as is!

I'm dreaming...  No, but honestly this is epic, as in makes me imagine an epic.  If it were me, I would be tempted to start playing around with a contrasting, maybe distant melodic sound in the middle section (cello, mandolin, fiddle, or a different wind, something acoustic) to complement the flute to create the setting for some kind of story.  As it is, every time it loops around to the first chord, it feels like it builds another level/layer, even when you don't add more sound (see 2nd and 3rd repetition).  I think that is a major accomplishment.

fantastic track man.

really enjoyed this. only criticism I could make is maybe make the track more concise. but it's definitely not too long either.

@NWSPR everything was played into flstudio with my microkey then soft quantized to still keep the live playing aspect to the flute anyway. The flute samples are in the sound resource thread so have at it smile

@Sonik thanks!

@Exile i agree lol the stutters are pretty in your face

@Vinpous THanks! and would you have a link to that? sounds like a life saver for these time crunched tunes

@Bleo Thanks! i wish i knew a dreamy female vocalist lol

@Nate EPIC THANKS!

@Zero thanks again

@George i need to work on endings lol fadeout = no idea's lol

very nice.  love the stutters you throw in there.  really brings the whole piece together

I really like the chords.  The stutters worked for me.

Enjoying it again.  Love that flue line.

the glitching of the melody lines is so much fun, I'm thoroughly enjoying this track cool

Yo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpAx9J4lM4Q, this shows his approach to "sampling" I guess. Very innovative. Here's a performance of his group: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CjIkArlKH4k

I also think that your stutter effect worked quite well!

I agree with vinpous, the stutters be nice.

If you listen close you can hear the normal flute samples are kinda choppy as they loop. Might wanna clean that up just a tad if that wasn't your intent. The purposeful stutters are great, though!

@overfocused it wasn't intentional but it kinda fit the theme so i left it
