W14 Tested

By Drum Bender on April 7, 2024 6:45 pm

Testing out a new potential format for the next round of tracks... multiple 8 bar loops. No repeating sections. Not sure how this might pan out, and it was SUPER hard to not have certain sections repeat or come back in.

No time to add vox this week... gonna go see SleepyTime Gorilla Museum again. Saw them last night... and they announced they're playing a free show at Amoeba Records on Height Street in SF. PUMPED.

Also, I think Pig Island is done. Gonna try to find someone to mix and master it then shop it around to tape labels and start going on little tours. If anyone has any suggestions for tape labels I should check out or hit up, lemme know. If I can't find one, maybe I'll start one???

Flick$ at me

Excited for Pig Island! I saw Sleepytime Gorilla Museum this last week on Thursday. That show was incredible! I was super stoked that they played nearly all of my favorite tunes (Even the rare Ossuary, something I definitely didn't expect) and the closing performance was unlike anything I've ever experienced at a show. Definitely among my favorite shows ever.

Rad track this week. That synth at 0:47 sounds wicked and I loved the drums throughout. Has a nice janky groove where my body is moving and my ears are tantalized. Flows really well into Human Way, btw.

When there are no repeating sections there's plenty of stuff going on, and all of it is new, so that's definitely a rewarding listen! An inspiring idea, too. I noted it to try out as well.

That being said, I think you could try reusing at least one of those 8-bar loops to become like a theme here, making this into a longer track in effect, and making it more memorable, too.

This is a great journey of industrial synth strung together by some gritty drum chops! I get a cyberpunk villain intro-theme vibe, which is pretty fuckin awesome.

Nice! linear songwriting is one of my favorite creative constraints. It can be really difficult, but super effective when done well. Can't wait to hear Pig Island! I will gladly share it in my Pittsburgh music circles.

great, very expressive, love the ending. as well as the synth tones coming in at ~:46

Thanks for listening everyone. Can't wait to hear everyone's W15. Hope your week was SICK!

This is really cool rhythmically. Great sounds and arrangement as always. Excited for Pig Island! Congrats on finishing it up smile

Love love love Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. I had the privilege of getting to open for them a couple times waaay back in the day with one of the bands I used to play with. Was a big deal for me, being a fan of theirs and Idiot Flesh before them. I also got to perform with one of Moe's side projects (MOE!KESTRA). All just really super lovely and creative people.

Also, this comment box is inside your last comment for some reason instead of at the bottom of the page... Soooooo, I don't know what's gonna happen when I submit but I'm ready to find out smile
