Cicada's Reflection

By dreat on January 11, 2026 10:40 pm

This week went definitely better; I got learnings from week1, tried something new.

This time I managed to learn what works - seems like starting with piano and working on that for some time and then working on patches/sound design etc works way better in my case.

Sadly this took too much time for me to add vocals (or maybe I'm trying to find excuses not to start doing vocals - I'm not sure, but I won't be running forever).

This gives me sort of a soundtrack to an 80's movie sort of vibe.  I like the momentum provided by the bass.  Once again, I think it works well as an instrumental.  The vocals will come when they're supposed to.

The drummer in you couldn't pass up on the opportunity to insert a 9/16 bit, and I'm here for it. Satisfying rhythmic ebb and flow to it!

Those key & time sig changes between main themes keep the excitement moving. I love the classic sound of the synths & drums.

Absolutely love the odd time signatures in this - feels frenetic and chaotic as my brain tries to find a 4:4 to latch on to LOL. Great soundtrack sort of feel, this works well as an instrumental. Sounds all work together well - classic sounds put together in a unique way. Nice track!

The changes along the way are a trip!

The part at 01:24 comes in super satisfying

I got so into commenting others, I forgot to respond to my own stuff

Thanks! What's interesting is that you're not the only one to say that. Maybe I'm from 80s (or at least my vibes) big_smile

Thank you! I think I accidentally made different parts "accent" a bit different meters, but if it's satisfying then it's all good big_smile

The funny thing is that I was not really happy with how drums sounded and now someone says they sound cool big_smile it's great how learning doesn't stop with making a track, it's also feedback in WB comments that's part of the journey. Thank you!

Thank you! I'm trying to make odd time signatures to sound as smooth as possible, so it's easy to try to treat it as 4/4 with "wait a sec" moment.
>feels frenetic and chaotic
that's awesome, thanks!

Thanks! I think it reflects my process a bit, it's so cool to hear it's present for the listener
