Where is maru303?

By dr0ptpacket on April 7, 2024 10:03 pm

Here we are now past the 1/4 mark and I realize I miss maru303!
He has such a style and only makes bangers. smile

This week I took a stab at emulating his style to reminisce and remind myself that:

#dirtywaveftw

track title caught my eye, and I'm glad it did -- bangin tune.

cool sound design throughout, nice off-kilter leftfield feel to the melodies. great work!

Thanks so much! I had a flash of inspiration after three failed attempts to start a song early in the week, and this was the result. Sound design is a huge weak spot for me and something I've been working on it since week 1, so it's really great to hear this encouragement!

This is superb!

Sadly I wasn't part of WB in 2022 when maru303 was participating, but I went back and listened to their last track and it was indeed AWESOME! Thanks for the rec!

Anyways, I really liked this tune!!! Feels super grimy and crunchy, I really like the heavy distortions all throughout.

Yeah, I was emulating some of his harder hitting stuff like UAP, Cathode, Anode, etc. wink

Thank you so much for the listen!

Love the groove of the rhythm immediately but when those hats kick in even more so.  The synths have such a nice gritty sound to them with a nice touch of reverb to help them escape the mix a bit.  Nice work!

Thank you! The primary synth is a decently bit-degraded buzz and I added reverb to "help" it be closer to what I wanted. If I redo it, think FM synths are a better way to go for sound design.

Exciting track to listen to -- jammin' tune.
