Caution, Rock drummer that tries jazz

By djippy on June 20, 2024 8:45 pm

Started with me trying to play some jazzy things on the drums with a metronome...

Then added some free of copyright samples (Rhodes, saxophones, upright bass)

And this is it!!!

No edits at all on the drums this week, quite a bit of compression, as always, it probably doesn't suit this style as much, but this is that!

Your drumming is excellent. I like the smooth usage of the cymbals and rides. The track sounds authentic and laid-back.
The picture is cool and funny too. The colors a link to the RHCP „dream canteen“?

i dont know anything about jazz, but this sounds pretty legit to me. not bad for a rock drummer wink

Not a bad jazz impression I'd say. Would love to hear this jazz side developed more smile

First, thanks a lot guys for listening and still commenting tracks at this time of the year. I know (at least for me) that life, time, motivation, etc... makes it harder and I for sure didn't comment-listened that much lately. I always try to go back at least to people that did comment on my track, sometimes do a bit more but not those latests weeks.

Thanks a lot, I am very pleased that you find my drumming excellent as I don't feel that way at all!!! It is fine, I had some fun doing that and think I did have a decent feel when I did play that track.

Yeah, having a bit of "fun" using Dalle (AI generated images). I kind of feel bad cause of all the energy this requires, but I think those images are a fun addition to those submissions.

Thank you! yeah, trying to get a bit better at the instrument, however I don't put much time into it, but it is fine... Maybe one day I'll put more time into this and less into some other stuff in my life!

Who knows! But this is definitively not a language I understand that much, I should probably dig-listen a bit on some of the nicely recorded Jazz standard...

Merci!

Thanks!

What a vibe! Great samples. Sounds jazzy enough to me. Some jazz is just everyone playing at the same time, this has a great feel with great laid back drums.

I think at this point you're a jazz drummer. Them's the rules.

Oooh smoke filled twin peaks-esque vibes.  Your drumming sounds excellent.  Such laid back feels and really creative use of the samples.  Totally nodding my head to the side..  This drips with coolness.  Nice work!

Oh god I'm in love with this. I've been trying to dial in smooth dark jazzy percussion and haven't got close to this. Phenomenal.
