DRIVING TO JARDINE

By dj someguy on April 10, 2016 10:06 am

I wanted to make an upbeat dancetrack, but somehow I ended up with a melancholic piece again. I've been listening to Carsten Jost lately, I guess his influence is in this one.
I used 808 drums, and wished I had a decent Rhodes for the piano parts, which I didn't. So I fooled around a bit with an E-piano plugin and put some effects on there. I think it comes somewhat close to a real Rhodes, though it lacks a bit of the natural deepness.
All in all it may be a bit long, but I felt the track needed some breathing room .
Hope you like it and hope the sun is shining wherever you are, just like it is here smile Have a great week!

Sometimes it's nice to give a track some space to unfold.  I like the beat and the bass sound on this one.  The piano is kind of subtle but it sounds nice still.

Digging this one a lot--the beat's a compelling start, and as it develops, it unfolds a bit like a landscape. Definitely a "driving" track--a total solitary-drive-at-night kind of vibe to this one.  Great stuff.

Nice. I'm feeling the driving vibe too.

Great bouncing beat. Good job on the e-piano. Minimalistic
track full of tension. Like it a lot. Wow. Now comes
the subbass....... sits perfect in the mix.

Thanks for the comment. I agree, I like it when tracks are building up slowly. Villalobos is a master at that, if he feels a track needs half an hour, it will last that long. I dig that a lot!

Thanks a lot. I chose the title because it did feel a bit like a drive-time track. The "Jardine" is actually a tiny place in Australia, that my girlfriend found on google maps. I've never been to it and have no clue what it looks like, but it has such a nice ring to it, ... et voila smile

Yeah, wonder why that is that some tracks have that feel ... But I like it smile

Thanks man!
I always struggle with the mix though. I find that a lot of you guys here on WeeklyBeats are so good at that, but for me it's always the biggest task of completing the track. So I am very glad you find the mixing good smile

Agree with everyone else on the "driving" vibe. Very relaxing and deep. Overall mix is clear, maybe a bit soft, but that's just my ears. Keep up the good work!

I am technically slightly challenged, so I hear you on the "soft mix", though how can one adjust this? Would be happy to get pointers.

The sub bass drop was really satisfying.  I really like the length of this, I think it was a good idea, especially seeing as you are taking us on a sonic drive to Jardine!

yeah, wish I had some really nice monitors (really need to invest in that!), so that I could really feel them basses! If you have any good tips for monitors, I'd like to hear them smile

Great stuff Someguy! The bass fills up the mix, in a very good way. The beat complimented my bike ride home. Haven't listened to Carsten Jost just yet but I will get around to listening to him!

Also this is one of my favorite tracks so far!

Really cool driving track especially with that nice sub pushing it along.  The EP works great with those swirly pads too.  Nice job!

Great pulsing track, I love smooth tracks like this that are stretched out, and agree with others the sub bass sounds great, I'm also just like you, mixing the track is the hardest part, but this sounds just right on my headphones
