Phryggin

How about that Phrygian mode. It's really not my kind of thing, but it's nice to have tried at least.

Also featuring the choir, I couldn't get it quite as dreary as I wanted it to be and MMM seems to have a distinct hatred for signatures that aren't 4/4, so I half-assed it for the most part. It still came out okay though.

Well played and synced from melodica to the choir. I like the breathy quality. What? MMM does not respect the 4/4? Pshaw and poppycock I say.

I always enjoy when you break out the melodica, good use of the choir for the backing. What time signature is it in? I'm afraid I'm not very good at identifying them if they're not 3/4 or 4/4 sad

Phryggin awesome

The opening melodica line has a bit of a sea shanty feel to me.  Then the choir definitely gives it more of an ominous  almost funereal vibe.  Nice.

Thanks. It's actually the only thing it respects. It's a very limited DAW that only has 3/4, 4/4 and 5/4 signatures and pretends the other two don't exist, but I mostly just use it for the instruments, because Magix doesn't want you using it elsewhere.

It's 3/4, or maybe 6/8, though it doesn't do anything fancy enough to need to be 6/8. It's just kinda how it ended up, though I probably could've made it 4/4 if I tried.

I'm more of an Ionian guy, maybe Lydian.

That's the vibe I was going for, though I feel it could've been a lot more dramatic.

This is great! Somehow I get some kind of a campfire vibe out of it...lovely smile

Intriguing combination of two forms of vocalization. Much liked.

Sounds kind of like music to a soundtrack for an old fashioned movie, or as someone else mentioned, a sea shanty, cool stuff!

Solo instrument songs heart Nice melody work, and the choir accompaniment is spot on.

That must be the melodica's doing.

The choir is more of a bass, but not deep in the bass register.

It's the rare sea western, cowboys vs pirates.

Thanks, I did what I could.

Thats beautyfull!
For the dreariness i think it's absolutly there and i like it.
I always dig for melodies like this. I think you maybe could intensify it with a bit more of background.
For example when the choir comes in it get's an extra kick. So you maybe need a bit of a constrast...

I love the melodica.  This very much has a zelda feel

I know the dreariness is there, I just don't like dreariness all that much. Unfortunately the choir can't get lower than it is, though I probably should've detuned it a little at least.

I love it too. You must've been playing different Zelda games than I have though.

Oh ok sorry I understood that you wanted it more dreary...
Waht exactly do you mean with dreary?
Seems that there are different meanings...
I was thinking about it as a sad hopeless or lonely joyless feel. Maybe someone shipwrecked or lost his girlfriend or never receiving a letter kind of dreary.

I was going for dreary, which seems to be a product of the phrygian scale. I don't like dreariness, but I also know it can be even more dreary, which means I haven't gotten everything out of it that I could.
