Events in Places

This is a song in 3,5/4. It's not 7/4 or 7/8, but specifically 3,5/4; something I've done before in 2014 and was just the right amount of devious for me to revisit.

I just took a bunch of soundfonts at random and worked with that. I have about a thousand of them, so I guess it's time to retire some. I have them categorized by type of instrument and took one of each type, then had to give each of them some time to do stuff. Some fared better than others.

I also added a bit of my melodica because reasons. Only in short hits because I can't find a way to kill the noise reducer.

The odd tempo really works on this and the entire track manages to have an upbeat and happy feel to it.

I like this song! Especially the ending with melodica I have to follow with clapping smile

The flute part is my favorite... Drums are pushing nicely...

because Mmmelodica! It goes well with that big snare smile

Thanks. The tempo is really not that weird, just 140bpm (I've done much worse, I'll revisit that sometime as well I suppose). The signature is definitely unusual though.

Much appreciated. I should really find a better way to record it so I can make even better sections.

I actually hate that flute, but if that's your jam, I can give you the soundfont. The drums certainly exert a certain force.

Most things go well with snares that powerful, a very underappreciated feature. The same goes for the melodica for that matter

Full of energy! Much liked.

So, 3/4 + 5/4, or something else?

Three-and-a-half quarter, so 3,5/4. Every measure comes down to three quarter notes and an eighth. It's made obvious in the short transitions and the melodica part.

this is the ultimate mind flood music

It certainly goes places.

Thanks.
I've never used tuxguitar, but I don't see why it'd be impossible. Sure, most DAWs don't allow for 3,5/4 settings, but if it can be set to 7/4 and you maintain the right mindset, it should be doable.

It's a keeper for sure, I'm definitely going to keep doing it through the year, sometimes unconsciously.

great creativity thru the eras of keyboards

Oh man, those horns at the 3/4th mark were the best kind of ridiculous.

I guess that's one way to look at it, although I'm pretty sure a guitar isn't a keyboard. Nor the flute. Nor the entire brass section.

Only the highest quality ridiculous, maybe a bit short though.

Nice quirky track. The rhythmic layering is very tastefully done.

Wow, the guitar was great.  Loved the buffet of sound here.

Yea, guitars are great, although this was just a sound font. I also have one featuring major chords I could do something with.

Thanks, apparently I know what I'm doing.
