Circus Mayhem

Now presenting for your entertainment, Circus Mayhem!

As stated last time: the only way to go from having one track with a random instrument every note is to have two, and the best way to handle that is with diverting them to either side with pan automation.

I tried making it feel like a circus for no particular reason, but I was having a bit of an issue actualizing it. The first half feels very nice to be sure and the organ is key in this, yet it never quite felt like a circus, maybe the 5/4 doesn't help either. However I managed to pull through quite alright at the second half when it starts to actually build up and resolve in an acceptable cadence.

I also automated the tempo, because that's the kind of disorder that's always welcome, it caused all sorts of trouble with exporting (I had to record the output in Audacity) and it's very subtle, but it's always worth it.

So now the freak show can begin. Mind the band, it's possessed.

Curious - cool too!  I'm liking how the melody seems comprised of a different instrument with each new note in some parts.

Nice! It’s giving me a Chrono Cross feel.

It's a really strange piece, but it works, definitely getting some weird / manic circus vibes

I am reminded of Antheil's Ballet Mecanique, but I guess this is the digital version?

Made me think of a great tent that goes flying up into space, super evocative sound big_smile

Creepy circus for sure!  You achieved it!

Sounds chaotic, but also orderly. Very interesting range of instruments!

great performance. fantastic sound-carousel.

It's actually all parts, and it's one in each ear. Or it's supposed to, maybe a little too much reverb caused it to blend together, though honestly it's not going to be much better either way.

Thanks! I only played trigger, so I wouldn't know about that.

Good to know I've managed at least that much. One of the finer uses of a minor scale in my opinion.

I'd like to believe there's too much structure in this for it to be that.

That's one interpretation, though I imagine it to be like walking through the grounds, witnessing the opening act, whatever it is. Perhaps taking flight.

Yea, it was a doozy, but I pulled through alright.

It's weird how those two things can mesh together at all, much less so well.

Thanks. That's a great term for it.

Yeah, it's not totally circus, and yet I can definitely hear that element in there.  Maybe an alien circus?

Maybe a carnival, or freak show.

Wonderful, incredible. Really appreciate the beat, and tempo variance. Hard to believe it's algorithmic, but anything is possible with demon summoning!

I've always been disturbed by circuses, so this is apt. ::)

Definitely can get the carnival/circus feeling on this. Well done!

I guess it is in some places. Just the tempo flip-flopping in a square wave and the two instrument tracks.

Funny things happen there.

Thanks. It's tricky at times.

I like the precarious feel.  Off cantor with the chord changes (a little Danny Elfmanish). A sense of danger and tension. Either high wire or perhaps clowns with mal-intent.  Great how the drums are directing the action.  ( BTW, Ever hear Circus of Death by the Human League? first thing I thought of when I saw your track name. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KqP3VYnIvE )

It kind of does feel a little Danny Elfman, though I'd like to think I take my inspiration from Radiohead. No band relishes more in their off chord changes than them; to them a chord progression doesn't necessarily stick to the scale as much as traditional music would allow.
Never heard Circus of Death, but let's be honest, there's a lot of words you can stick after "Circus" to make it sound very, very nasty.

It feels like it borders on a villains theme.. or like, the end of the world.. reminds me of thanatos from secret of mana, but maybe before his final plans

That would be an interesting circus to go to! Nice work, really interesting and unexpected stuff.

This is terrific.  I really like the panning and the 5/4 rhythm is very unsettling.

There's definitely some foul going on here for sure.

Thanks. A surprise at every note.

I don't know if the 5/4 is particularly unsettling, but it definitely adds a layer to it. A sort of unease that's off from the usual.

that mysterious circus vibe is awesome!
Nice Idea to change the instrument on every note.
the toms are maybe a bit too extended.

Yea, just a little maybe. Or, like, a lot. It definitely creates the atmosphere I was going for, but it really overrules the bits I wanted to emphasize and ended up somewhat messy.

Nice drum work too, it really drives the mystery and mayhem of the random_instruments smile

As drums should.
