for lack of a better beat

I finally decided to give the Cthulhu vst a shot because I've been a huge deadmau5 fan for over a decade but never really experimented with his style of music.  In my opinion, the way he structures some of his chords is brilliant, and i don't realize it until i try replicating and and usually fail miserably.

I wrote this yesterday and messed with a lot of the automations today.  It's not much, but I was able to spend some time on some aspects of electronic that i haven't really experimented with in the past, so i enjoyed the short but fun journey of this little deadmau5 arp rip off.  enjoy!

very nice arpeggiated chords, and that uh... punchy atmospheric sound in the back adds a lot to the song. Is that the Cthulhu vst you are talking about?

SLAP. This kicks major A dude. The progression gets you moving and those background sounds are awesome. I wanna kick a final boss' ass in some Japanese video game.

super awesome, great beat, I love the movement in the arps. Cthulhu is dope

Ah yes! Nice 90s vibes here, good job!

cthulha is a pretty cool vst that i only used to help out with the arpeggio structure of the chords i wrote in piano roll.   the punchy sound is a synth i messed with in serum where it kinda triggers a tom hit when the key notes that are going to get automated with the portamento knob are played.  its all pretty new to me so im still trying to figure it out. thanks for listening!

Ohhhh yeah I cranked this one.  Awesome job on this.  You didn't have this made when I was over at your house on Friday did you?  I love the buildup.  Nailed it man.

thanks dude.  nah i punched it out yesterday.  honestly, its only a few different chord tracks, but most of the work was done with the knobbys and automations.  almost felt like a practice session that just ended up going a little long, then boom...3 minutes.

Very nice. smile . Wide, powerful. That kick is brutal as well. Nice track.

Man this just flew by! I didn't want the track to end smile I'm in love with that arp sequence heart

Damn dude, this is a pretty wild change of pace.  This Cthulhu thing is nuts too!  Crazy arp lines with a huge stereo spread (which is automated in some parts?).  There's also like a 3d space effect going on with the pad in back vs the arp in front.  Shits putting me in a zone.  Nothing like a new toy to get the creative juices flowing.

Just like everybody else, I'm also nuttin all over the arp sequence from Cthulhu.
Definitely peaked my interest

Thats that big boi sound son! This track sounded killer bumping out of the car stereo this morning!

thanks!  originally it was nearly 6 minutes, but it kept repeating so i figured the best bet was the half it.

yeah man, i automated some of the lfo cutoff and kinda just messed with the buildups.  I was winging a lot of it, but im looking forward to trying it out some more, because nothing gets my jimmies rustled like a nice arp and repetitive chord hits

thanks!  and im glad!  i was a bit worried i had it too loud in some parts but i think it turned out decent for my minimalist mixing skills

I just ended up listening to it a bunch of times on repeat wink
